The Driver/Clerical Aide is an integral part of the Opelika Regional Center team. This role provides direct services and support throughout the counties served by the Opelika Regional Center. Responsibilities included transporting staff and consumers, making deliveries, and providing clerical support. The ideal candidate is one who is flexible, self-motivated, possesses good organizational skills, and excels in a fast-paced team environment.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Basic Qualifications

• Education: Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Licensure & Insurance: Valid driver license with auto insurance; must be eligible for coverage under the AIDB insurance carrier.
• Transportation & Driving Skills: Clean and reliable transportation; demonstrated ability to obtain and follow driving directions accurately and safely.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Transportation & Consumer Support

• Staff & Consumer Transport: Transport Opelika Regional Center staff who are blind and visually impaired, as well as AIDB consumers, providing assistance as needed.
• Route Planning: Utilize map reading skills and digital tools/Internet to map travel directions and calculate mileage.
• Wheelchair & Mobility Assistance: Safely assist consumers entering and exiting vehicles and facilities, ensuring proper use of wheelchair lifts and securement equipment.

Clerical & Administrative Operations

• Office Support: Perform general clerical duties, including reception desk coverage, data entry, copying, sorting mail, and answering and routing telephone calls.
• Documentation: Complete and submit all required records, travel logs, and documentation accurately and on time in accordance with AIDB policies and procedures.
• Facility Access: Assist with reception duties, including opening the building for meetings, workshops, and events on occasional nights or weekends.
• Technical Proficiency: Proven computer and software experience equivalent to Google G-Suite, including Calendar, Sheets, Docs, and Drive.
• Work Schedule Flexibility: Willingness to work flexible hours, including early mornings, nights, and weekends, with occasional overnight travel.
• Professional Standards: Past work record demonstrating high integrity, confidentiality, a strong attendance record, and a professional appearance and demeanor.
• Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Pleasant telephone and interpersonal communication skills; demonstrated ability to understand and follow verbal, signed, and/or written instructions.
• Adaptability & Initiative: Ability to take initiative, anticipate problems, follow through, meet established deadlines, and remain flexible with work assignments and unexpected interruptions.
• Physical Capability: Ability to bend, stoop, and lift up to 25 lbs.

Regional Center Activities & Event Support

• Event Logistics: Assist in planning, setting up, cleaning up, and participating in regional center activities, such as White Cane Day, Deaf Awareness events, educational workshops, social/community events, and statewide programs.
• Consumer & Staff Assistance: Provide general support and assistance to regional center consumers, staff, and visitors during routine operations and special functions.

Professional Development and Certifications

• Orientation to Blindness: Must complete Orientation to Blindness Training within the first thirty (30) days of employment.
• Lift & Securement Certification: Must obtain wheelchair lift and securement certification within six (6) months of employment.
• Bus Driver Licensure: Must obtain a valid Alabama Bus Driver’s License within the first twenty-four (24) months of employment.
• Sign Language Proficiency: Must obtain a sign language proficiency level of SURVIVAL according to the AIDB evaluation system within the first thirty-six (36) months of employment.

SALARY:      $15.69 - $18.30       Scale C5 Rank 32

                       $23.65  – CDL           Scale S1 Rank HS

When on a driving assignment that requires to drive a CDL, will be paid CDL pay.
