Driver/Maintenance Helper

POSITION SUMMARY:

Drives gasoline or diesel-powered delivery vehicles, occasionally long distances, but within a 100 air mile radius, to transport and deliver equipment or materials in loose or packaged form. Drives truck to destination, applying knowledge of commercial driving regulations and skill in maneuvering vehicle in difficult situations, such as narrow passageways. Inspects truck for defects before and after trips and submits report indicating truck condition as needed. Assists workers in loading and unloading truck.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Receives and follows oral or written instructions to output completed projects.

• Operates tractor trailer combination or other commercial vehicles to transport and deliver

equipment or material.

• Inspects vehicles and performs general trouble shooting and maintenance of vehicles as required.

• Operates ratchet straps and/or chains and binders to secure load to trailer for transport.

• Applies knowledge of understanding and training to inspect material at this phase for

completeness and conformity to company requirements.

• Obeys all laws applicable to commercial vehicle operation as regulated by Federal, State and local

authorities.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Participates in Safety and Quality programs.

• Helps others to perform job task.

• Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

• The truck driver’s position is considered a non-entry level position.

• On the job training will be provided specific to company policies and procedures.

• Completion of Core Employee Safety Orientation, Defensive Driving and other training as

identified on SSI Employee Training Matrix.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Heavy work classification.

• Exerting 50 lbs frequently and/or occasionally.

• Long periods of sitting, standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching and climbing.

• Ability to drive commercial vehicle long distances as needed.

• Push / Pull while exerting manual force.

• Works outdoors.

• Works with moving equipment.

• Repetitive motions and manual handling of material.

• Works at a rapid pace.

• Ability to clearly communicate and command of the English language.

• Ability to pass, as required, a CDL Physical administered by the company physician to maintain

safe operation and retain license classification.

Certifications:

• Regular Drivers License or CDL preferred
