This is a Fulltime afternoon shift position at our Stanley group home (Helens Haven). This is a non-exempt position.

Schedule is as follows: 

Week 1-

37 hours

Sunday: 1p-11p

Monday: OFF

Tuesday: OFF

Wednesday: 2p-11p

Thursday: 2p-11p

Friday: 2p-11p

Saturday- OFF

Week 2-

34 hours

Sunday: OFF

Monday- 2p-11p

Tuesday: 2p-11p

Wednesday: 3p-9p

Thursday: OFF

Friday: OFF

Saturday: 1p-11p

Job Summary:

The RESIDENTIAL DIRECT SUPPORT PROFESSIONAL assists each individual in achieving his/her maximum level of independence through development of basic adult living skills and ensures that individual needs are met. 

Essential Functions:

  1. Participating in, and carrying out, the Person-Centered Plan (PCP) as developed by the individual’s interdisciplinary team.                                     
  2. Providing self-help training as indicated in each individual’s PCP. Documentation must be completed daily.
  3. Participating in individual evaluations (including preliminary strengths and needs lists) as appropriate for program planning.
  4. Providing input for behavioral intervention meetings.
  5. Planning activity schedules according to each individual’s PCP.
  6. Assisting individuals in obtaining physician prescribed medications; supervising the administration of those medications; and keeping appropriate records of medications taken.
  7. Monitoring the individual’s personal needs including hygiene and grooming (including bathing and shaving).
  8. Assisting individuals in the selection, purchase and care of their clothing and groceries.
  9. Facilitating integrative, and socially valued experiences for each individual.
  10. Must provide individual recreational and leisure time activities. 
  11. Transporting individuals to community activities, appointments, and public transportation pickup locations.
  12. Ensuring that well-balanced and nutritious meals are prepared, and choices are provided. It is important that individuals participate in meal planning and preparation.
  13. Maximally involving individuals in all phases of PCP and behavioral planning.
  14. Protecting the human rights of each individual and insuring the confidentiality of his/her records.
  15. Encourage individuals to be independent with all daily living skills (Ex. Showering, laundry, cleaning, meal/lunch/snack preparation).
  16. Encourage individuals to take pride in their residential setting by helping to maintain grounds and interior of the home.
  17. All shifts are “awake” positions.
  18. Ensures overall safety of individuals and enforces/safeguards individual’s rights.
  19. Encouraging community awareness of people with disabilities and residential programs.
  20. Keeping appropriate documentation of individual goals and detailed progress notes.
  21. Maintaining a home-like environment according to the home and community-based settings requirements.
  22. Participate in and sometimes conduct emergency drills according to agency policy and procedures.
  23. Responsible for the general upkeep of residential facilities (interior & exterior) and vehicles and reporting maintenance in a timely manner to Residential Supervisor.
  24. Informing the Residential Supervisor of program issues and events.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED. 
  • 2 years of experience working with persons with disabilities.
  • Ability to work well with a variety of people.

Competencies, Knowledge, and Skills:

  • Proficient with Microsoft applications.
  • Working knowledge of individual program planning, and individual training methods.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communications skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Ability to excel in fluid, dynamic environment.
  • Capacity to work effectively and cooperatively with others.
  • Excellent organizational, professional and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Must be a good listener.

Licensure and Certification:

  • First Aid / CPR / AED
  • UKERU
  • 32 Hour Medication Administration Training (if applicable)
  • Direct Support Professional Training
  • Safety Training 

All Positions:

  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and have proof of a good driving record.
  • Pass multiple background inquiries.
  • Pass a pre-employment drug screen, and then on a random basis.
  • Must follow SPI vehicle guidance lines and policies.
  • May be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Must be willing to substitute and work in all departments, and locations as needed.
  • Administers UKERU, First Aid and CPR when necessary. 
  • Follows infectious disease policies and protocols, both within the facilities and while in the community. 
  • Must protect the human rights of each individual, ensuring the confidentiality of his /her records.
  • Attends meetings and training courses as required. 
  • Meets attendance standards, being on time and regular in attendance.  
  • Must be able to move 50 lbs. and on occasion up to 150 lbs. (lift, push, pull – movie objects or individual).
  • Ability to read a variety of documents, evaluations, summaries, reports, charts, reviews treatment plans etc. Must be able to use a computer and write documents listed previously, using designated formats with the rules of grammar, punctuation, spelling, dictation, and style.
  • Need to possess the ability to apply the principles of critical thinking, defining problems, emergencies, data collection, stating facts and draw valid conclusions. Must be able to understand both verbal and written forms and instructions.
  • Must be able to communicate and deliver instructions effectively and professionally, both written and verbal, and via telephone.
  • Must have the physical and mental capability to use all office equipment (phone, computer, email, and all functions of a copier).
  • Must be able to handle all types of stressful situations.
  • Must have good personal hygiene, being clean, and neat in appearance, wearing appropriate clothing and shoes for the job.
  • Adheres to the policies and procedures established by the SPI Board of Directors and Management.
  • All other duties as assigned by management.
