POSITION DESCRIPTION1

Position Title:                         Direct Support Professional
Department:                           Adult Day Program
Reporting Function:              Adult Day Program Manager
Supervisory Functions:         N/A
Salary:                                    No change to your current rate



Job Summary:                       As a Direct Support Professional, you will support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to achieve greater independence, inclusion, and self-advocacy. DSPs assist individuals in building functional, vocational, communication, and social skills while fostering meaningful community connections and helping them reach their personal goals.
                                               
Essential Job Functions:        
  • Build and maintain positive, professional relationships with individuals, families, guardians, employers, and community partners.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive environment that values teamwork, respect, and meaningful interaction among individuals.  
  • Supervise individuals to ensure safety during transportation, community outings, and day program activities.
  • Support individuals in achieving their personal goals by teaching and reinforcing skills in areas such as communication, socialization, education, vocational training, daily living, and community participation.
  • Implement and monitor individualized support plans, behavioral strategies, and skill-building curricula.
  • Provide active supervision and support by engaging individuals in purposeful activities, fostering a positive environment through encouragement and consistent reinforcement.
  • Provide assistance with personal hygiene and care needs as required, ensuring the individual’s dignity and independence are maintained.
  • Maintain cleanliness and proper functioning of personal care items and equipment in accordance with hygiene and safety standards.
  • Coordinate and support volunteer opportunities, job site visits, and other community-based experiences.
  • Assist in developing and implementing individualized support plans, curricula, and vocational training opportunities.
  • Develop, schedule, and facilitate community experiences including employment exposure, volunteer work, and social activities.
  • Document services provided, progress notes, data collection, and other required paperwork in compliance with Laradon policies and state/federal regulations.
  • Document attendance, daily activities, and progress toward individual goals in compliance with agency and regulatory standards.
  • Prevent and manage crises using approved interventions to ensure a safe environment.
  • Foster natural supports and community inclusion.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and stakeholders.
  • Implement health, safety, and behavioral protocols as outlined in individual service plans.
  • Maintain punctual, reliable attendance and actively contribute to a collaborative team environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.
                                                 


Minimum Training                
Requirements:                       
  • All trainings deemed mandatory by Laradon.
  • New hire orientation and all mandatory agency/state training.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Medication administration certification (QMAP)
                                                •   Driver Improvement Training
                                                •   Mistreatment, Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation (MANE) training.
                                                •   Incident Reporting
                                                •   Crisis Intervention training

                                                •   20 hours of on-the-job training

Minimum Position                   •   High School diploma or GED required.
Requirements:                         •   Must be 21 years of age.      
                       •   Valid driver’s license an acceptable driving record.
                                                  •   Two years of direct experience with individuals with developmental                                                                     disabilities.
                                                  •   Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, including lifting up to                                                          50 lbs., prolonged standing/walking, and occasional bending, kneeling, or                                                            crouching.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Commitment to person-centered supports, dignity, and respect for all individuals.
