Job Description - Early Childhood Substitute Teacher-Ann Arbor, MI

ECE Subhub is seeking a flexible, dependable Early Childhood Substitute Teacher to support three university affiliated early learning centers in Ann Arbor. Substitutes in this role may be assigned to any of the three campuses, each offering a high quality program, strong educational philosophy, and a community of families connected to the university.

Across these centers, you’ll find well established routines, supportive teaching teams, and children who are curious, capable, and eager to learn. The families you’ll work with are students, faculty, researchers, and healthcare professionals who value education and strong partnerships with teachers. While each location has its own personality, ranging from structured and curriculum‑driven, to flexible and relationship‑based, to creative and Reggio‑inspired, they all share a commitment to child‑centered learning, respectful communication, and professional collaboration.

Depending on the assignment, you may experience Creative Curriculum, HighScope, or Reggio Emilia approaches. This variety offers a unique opportunity to build your skills across multiple teaching models, work with diverse teams, and support children in environments that prioritize exploration, communication, and meaningful relationships.

Working With ECE Subhub
At ECE Subhub, you’ll be supported every step of the way. As a long‑term substitute, you’ll have opportunities to assist or lead in curriculum implementation, daily routines, relationship‑building, and the overall rhythm of each classroom you support. Whether you’re stepping into a structured campus program, a flexible healthcare‑affiliated center, or a creative project‑based environment, you’ll be backed by a team that ensures you feel prepared, valued, and connected.

You’ll gain hands‑on experience across a variety of teaching styles and settings, build strong professional relationships, and develop confidence working with children ages 0–5. Our substitutes are trusted partners in each classroom, and we make sure you have the tools, training, and encouragement you need to succeed.

What You Can Expect
  • Work with children ages 0–5.
  • Choose your schedule with a minimum of two days per week.
  • Opportunities to support multiple curriculum models and teaching philosophies.
  • A great fit for retirees, college students, and those reentering the workforce.
  • Comprehensive training, coaching, and ongoing support.
  • A welcoming, inclusive team that values your growth and contributions.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Current CDA or Associate’s degree or 18 college credits in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Social Work, Human Services, Youth or Family Studies, or Elementary Education.
