Early Head Start (EHS) Early Child Education & Prenatal Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY

Provide tailored prenatal services to prenatal families, addressing their specific needs and concerns about child development, health, and social services. Demonstrate practical parenting techniques during home visits and socializations, using real-life scenarios. Create easy-to-understand guides, videos, or handouts on topics like prenatal care, infant milestones, and early childhood nutrition. Encourage parents to take an active role in their child's development by setting achievable goals and celebrating their progress. 

Develop sessions on prenatal care, fetal development, and parenting practices, using engaging, evidence-based materials. Collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure families receive prenatal and pediatric care. Facilitate peer-support groups for pregnant women to share experiences and advice.

Assist the ECE Manager with the development, implementation and evaluation of the EHS program to ensure high quality services on prenatal care, fetus development and very young children (0-3 years). Planning socialization, mommy & me activities and workshops for pregnant women, children and their families.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

• Establish positive, supportive and reciprocal relationships with families, children, and community resources.
• Facilitate bi-monthly socialization activities in partnership with other Early Childhood Educator and families.
• Plan home visits and socialization activities according to home base curriculum and Head Start Performance Standards.
• Complete pre/post developmental screenings and ongoing assessment of eligible children and their families (prenatal families and for children).
• Assist parents with children with disabilities to ensure they are involved in the planning and implementation of all EHS program services.
• Conduct bi-weekly home visits with up to 6 pregnant parents and weekly home visits with up to 6 families/children.
• Facilitate monthly prenatal support groups.
• Utilize curriculum to address OHS required prenatal topics: fetal development; the importance of nutrition; the risks of alcohol, drugs, and smoking; labor and delivery; postpartum recovery; parental depression; infant care and safe sleep practices; and benefits of breastfeeding.
• Complete prenatal screenings and assessments for pregnant mothers.
• Complete the requirements for newborn visits within two weeks of birth
• Support the transition of pregnant mothers.
• Facilitate partnership goals for families and pregnant mothers.
• Establish positive, supportive and reciprocal relationships with families, children, pregnant mothers and community resources.
• Participate in weekly and monthly staff meetings for case conferencing and reflective supervision.
• Provide and maintain appropriate data and files of children, their families and pregnant mothers as defined by the Head Start Performance Standards.
• Participate in on-going professional development to better serve EHS families, children and pregnant mothers.
• Will support the ECE Assistant Manager with Together Learning & Collaborating (TLC) observations
• Participate in EHS program community assessment
• Assist in the coordination, implementation and development of EHS daily activities, program goals and procedures aimed to achieve maximum program participation, effectiveness and efficiency for children their families and pregnant women.
• Assist EHS Management with strategically analyzing and assessing program strengths and needs and make recommendations for program improvements.
• Initiate other actions and procedures as identified by EHS Manager/Director in order to achieve organizational and programmatic successes.
• Attend and participate in meetings and training, including evening meetings and out-of-town travel.
• Demonstrate ability to work independently and as an effective member of a multidisciplinary team.
• Maintain a professional attitude, confidentiality, and respect for cultural differences.
• Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES)

• Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) or Associate degree preferred in child development 
• Three years’ experience in early childhood, prenatal support, social services or family support programs required
• Experience in infant-toddler development required
• Demonstrate ability to plan, coordinate and deliver services specifically for pregnant women, infants
• and toddlers.
• Early Head Start knowledge required
• Experience with management, supervision, training and support groups in a home-based early childhood/pregnant women program required.
• Experience working with individuals with diverse ethnic backgrounds
• Strong communication, problem solving and interpersonal skills; strong organizational, writing, and
• Record-keeping skills.
• Ability to work independently and as an effective member of a multidisciplinary team.
• Proficient in Microsoft office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) and use of the internet.
