Job Description - Early Head Start Operations Coordinator

Join Our Team: Operations Coordinator

Location: Columbia, SC

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM (with occasional evenings/weekends)
Status: Full-time, Non-Exempt
Benefits: Yes — including health, dental, vision, and retirement

Richland County First Steps (RCFS) is dedicated to giving every child the best start in life. Our Early Head Start program provides critical support to children and families, and we are seeking a passionate Operations Coordinator to help us carry out this mission.

Why Join Us?

At RCFS, you’ll be part of a mission-driven organization where your work makes a difference every day. The Operations Coordinator is the hub of our Early Head Start program — ensuring that systems run smoothly, records are accurate, and staff have what they need to serve children and families with excellence. This is more than a desk job — it’s an opportunity to contribute to meaningful, life-changing work in our community.

What You’ll Do

As the Operations Coordinator, you will:

  • Provide administrative and operational support to keep our Early Head Start program running efficiently

  • Manage records, tracking systems, and internal communications across multiple service areas

  • Ensure compliance with Head Start Performance Standards, SC DSS regulations, and SC First Steps guidance

  • Oversee purchasing and inventory to keep classrooms and staff supplied

  • Serve as a communication link between leadership, staff, and partners

  • Support events, trainings, and program improvement efforts

What We’re Looking For

  • Education: Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s preferred (Business, Organizational Management, or related field)

  • Experience: 7+ years in administrative, operations, or executive assistant roles (nonprofit, education, or government experience a plus)

  • Skills: Strong organizational, documentation, and communication skills; proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and comfortable with digital file systems

  • Mindset: Detail-oriented, proactive, and mission-driven — someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment where every day is different

Why It Matters

Every log you update, policy you support, or supply order you manage directly impacts the children and families we serve. You’ll be part of a team that values professionalism, compassion, and the belief that all children deserve a strong start.

Ready to make a difference?
Apply today and help us strengthen families and prepare children for success in school and in life.
