Early Head Start Program Aide

Reports to:

EHS Center Site Supervisor

SUMMARY:

To assist program with laundering, sanitation and general operational needs.  To cooperate with Center Staff and program specialists to promote the health and education of each child.  Keeping the classroom in accordance with Performance Standards and licensing requirements for health and safety.  To cooperate with Teachers to promote the health and education of each child, and to work with center staff to assure a smooth flow of written communication between families and Early Head Start.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Coordinate laundering of sheets and blankets and other laundry used in program.


• Daily sweeping, mopping, bathroom sanitation, toy sanitation and garbage removal for each classroom.


• Assist with coverage for breaks, lunches and when needed.


• Prepare, stock classrooms for the next day.


• Kitchen clean up and sanitation.


• Assist with other program needs upon request.

• Work with teachers, specialists and/or director to provide program assistance.


• Other duties as assigned.

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS:

Knowledge/Skills/Experience Required

• Basic literacy and math skills; a high school diploma or GED.


• Minimum of 6 ECE units required with commitment to complete additional units within a year of hire.


• Working knowledge of the behaviors and developmental stages of infants and toddlers, typically gained by working one year or more in a child care setting.


• Strong written and oral communication skills.


• Knowledge and experience with janitorial tasks.


• Ability to balance safety considerations with the children’s needs to be active.


• Ability to work as a team member, dependable.


• Valid Driver’s License and driving record free of any moving violations within the last three years.


• Must be CPR/First Aid Certified

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.  The employee frequently lifts and/or moves up to 20 pounds, and occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 40 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. 

Must be able to promote an integrated service delivery model to Early Head Start Families in combination with other service areas and have the ability to problem solve with staff members.
