Job Description - Early Interventionist (Oak Ridge, TN) Emory Valley Center

Early Interventionist

  • Pay: $48,000 - $58,000 per year (depending on education/experience)

Early Interventionist Program:

The Early Interventionist program at Emory Valley Center in Oak Ridge, TN provides developmental support for infants and toddlers (birth to age three) through the Tennessee Early Intervention System (TEIS). Serving families in Anderson and surrounding counties, trained specialists work with children in their homes or community settings using evidence-based strategies like Family Guided Routines-Based Intervention. The program emphasizes coaching parents and caregivers to support their child’s development in everyday routines, focusing on areas such as language, motor, and social-emotional skills. Services are individualized through IFSPs, with regular visits, progress monitoring, and coordination with other providers. The ultimate goal is to help children reach their full potential and reduce the need for future special education services.

  • Drive personal vehicle to assigned home visits and as needed for service coverage.
  • Review and implement Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSPs).
  • Observe and interact with children and families, modeling intervention strategies.
  • Input timely and accurate documentation into the Tennessee Early Intervention Data System.
  • Schedule and maintain consistent appointments with families.
  • Attend required trainings and professional development sessions.
  • Monitor and document child and family progress on IFSP goals.
  • Educate families on Early Intervention principles and the Rights of Infants and Toddlers under Part C of IDEA.
  • Adhere to Corporate Compliance Policy, paperwork requirements, and HIPAA regulations.
  • Follow universal precautions and confidentiality protocols.

Responsibilities:

As an Early Interventionist you would be providing developmental support to infants and toddlers, by working directly with families in home and community settings. Your primary role involves coaching parents and caregivers to integrate evidence-based strategies into everyday routines to support the child’s growth in areas such as communication, motor skills, cognition, and social-emotional development. You'd be conducting developmental assessments, creating and implementing Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSPs), and monitor each child’s progress toward developmental goals. In addition to offering ongoing education and resources to families, they travel regularly to homes, childcare centers, and other natural environments to deliver services tailored to each child’s unique needs.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Maintain a caseload of 16–20 FTE families (1 FTE = 1 hour per child).
  • Utilize Family Guided Routines-Based Intervention (FGRBI) and other evidence-based models in collaboration with families and childcare staff.
  • Apply adult learning principles to support family education and engagement.
  • Conduct developmental assessments and submit reports to Service Coordinators on schedule (initial, 6-month, and annual reviews).
  • Track and support progress toward IFSP goals.
  • Work effectively across diverse home and childcare settings, demonstrating cultural sensitivity and flexibility.
  • Comply with TEIS Operations Manual, including:
  • Timely documentation and service note entry
  • Minimum 75% attendance rate
  • Service initiation within 30 calendar days
  • Remain calm and exercise sound judgment during crises.
  • Utilize Microsoft Excel, Word, and other required software tools.

Bachelor’s degree in:

  • Early Childhood Education
  • Child and Family Studies
  • Early Intervention
  • Related fields: Deaf Education, Visual Disabilities, Special Education (K–12), Elementary Education, Communication Disorders, Speech-Language Pathology
