Job Description - Early Learning Assistant Teacher

Starting Pay: $14.00 per hour


Location: Rapid City, SD


Hours of Operation: Monday - Friday, 7 am - 5:30 pm


Shift: 8 hours


Classroom Age Ranges: 6 weeks - 5 years old (Let us know your preferred age group)

POSITION SUMMARY:


The Early Learning Assistant Teacher at YMCA of the Black Hills maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals, promotes the potential of all youth, and provides a quality experience to both youth and their families.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES:



  1. Ensure the safety and security of each child in your care

  2. Nurture children through purposeful programming, implement mission based, age-appropriate curricula as set forth by the lead teacher.

  3. Develop and maintain positive relationships with all youth in your care

  4. Handles and resolves membership concerns and informs supervisor of unusual situations or unresolved issues.

  5. Provides and welcomes ongoing positive dialog and relations with YMCA families.

  6. Complete continuing education annual requirements.

  7. Maintain excellent room appearance and proper maintenance and use of equipment, supplies, and materials.

  8. Learn and actively implement YMCA Social and Emotional Curriculum, Conscious Discipline.

  9. Completes opening and closing procedures as required.

  10. Follow all childcare policies and procedures as set forth in the childcare employ handbook

  11. Applies all YMCA safety and emergency procedures and state and local codes.

  12. Accurately complete an incident/accident report for each incident/accident and submit and report it in accordance with staff training.

QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Minimum of 16 years of age.

  • Be able to lift 25 lbs

  • Have an understanding of growth and development

  • Meet qualifications needed for South Dakota State Childcare Licensing

  • CPR/AED and First Aid Certifications required within 60 days of hire, other YMCA required training within 60 days of hire.

  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

  • Be passionate about the YMCA mission and vision and must personally advocate and demonstrate the core values of honesty, respect, responsibility and caring.

  • Basic knowledge of computers.

  • The employee frequently is required to sit on the floor, bend, balance and reach and must be able to move around the work environment.

  • The employee must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

  • See details of objects that are less than a few feet away.

  • See details of objects that are more than a few feet away.
