Job Description - Early Learning/ Special Ed K-1 Teacher


 

PLACEMENT: Elevate Elementary/Early Learning Center

REPORTS TO: Program Administrator/Assistant Director of Special Education and Executive Director

WORK YEAR REQUIREMENTS: 185-day school year

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Review/revise content area curriculum yearly. Build working knowledge of the core curriculum to provide high quality learning experiences as well as individualized IEP goals for students in the areas of need
  • Instruct students in the general core content areas curriculum. Ensure that appropriate accommodations, supplemental aids and materials are prepared and in place for students
  • Support students in their efforts to complete classroom work and to achieve their annual and long-term academic goals
  • Assist in the development, modification and implementation of school-wide structures and procedures that will enable children with social/emotional/mental health needs  succeed in school and community
  • Communicate expectations, outcomes and daily progress on a regular basis to students, staff and, especially, families
  • Work directly with Program Administrator, Social Worker, and Program Behavioral Specialists/Teacher Assistants to support at-risk students as they develop/improve appropriate behaviors and conflict resolution skills
  • Prepare individualized study plans and IEPs/504s utilizing the CCSS in conjunction with administration, staff and families
  • Collect data as needed to monitor progress toward IEP goals and objectives, efficacy of individual behavioral programs and to inform instruction
  • Work with other service providers (i.e. speech/language, OT, PT, etc.) to ensure coordination of services and re-enforcement of skills in an effort to maximize positive outcomes for children
  • Responsible for conducting evaluations in response to initial referrals and tri-annual reviews as a member of the Evaluation Team.
  • Coordinate and attend all IEP meetings for students on individual caseload. Create/ Revise academic IEP goals as determined through the IEP process and team. Prepare to present students’ current levels of performance and identify future needs at the meetings and when requested by Program Administrator and/or special education Director
  • Report progress to sending districts and families based on reporting requirements outlined in the IEP (minimal  trimesters) and upon request
  • Perform duties as assigned by the Program Administrator/Assistant Director of Special Education and Executive Director

Requirements

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to be certified by the Rhode Island Department of Education in Special Education and Early Childhood Education 
  • Knowledge of, and experience with multiple teaching techniques and methods to modify classroom instruction to meet students’ needs.
  • Relevant work experience and effectiveness with a population that exhibits challenging behaviors
  • Knowledge and understanding of health, safety and emergency procedures in a school environment
  • Training and competency in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention or ability to successfully complete training upon hire
