Job Description - Early Years Program Teacher (Mandarin-speaking)


SUMMARY OF ROLE

Silicon Valley International School is seeking a Mandarin Chinese-speaking teacher for our Preschool/Pre-Kindergarten Program for the academic year 2025-2026. Early Years Program Teachers are responsible for developing lesson plans and schemes of work in alignment with curriculum objectives. They facilitate learning by building relationships with students and organizing learning resources and the classroom environment effectively. 

Teachers in the Early Years Program foster essential skills and social abilities to support the optimal development of children based on their age, ability, and aptitude. They assess and record students' progress, preparing them for middle school. Additionally, they connect students' knowledge to previous learning experiences and develop strategies to encourage further growth. EYP Teachers challenge and inspire students, helping them deepen their knowledge and understanding.

Typical work activities include:

  • Teaching all areas of the EYP curriculum as designated
  • Following the guidelines and mission of Silicon Valley International School (INTL) and the International Baccalaureate EYP Programme
  • Taking responsibility for the progress of one or two classes of Early Years Program (EYP age 3-6) students at a grade level
  • Organizing the classroom and learning resources to create a positive learning environment
  • Planning, preparing, and presenting lessons that cater to the needs of the whole ability range within their class
  • Motivating students with enthusiastic, imaginative presentations/engagements and respectful interactions
  • Managing student behavior and maintaining discipline
  • Preparing, documenting, evaluating, and communicating to facilitate positive student development
  • Meeting requirements for the assessment and recording of students' development
  • Providing feedback to parents on the student's progress at parents' conferences, other (often less formal) meetings, and report cards
  • Collaborating with others to plan and coordinate work, liaising with colleagues, and working flexibly
  • Staying up to date with changes and developments in the structure of the curriculum
  • Taking part in school events and activities that can be run at weekends or evenings
  • Planning and participating in field trips
  • Monitoring recess/lunch
  • Other duties as required to perform the job

 

Physical Requirements of the Job:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that an employee must meet to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. While performing the duties of this job, the employee must frequently:

  • Working with toddlers involves extensive physical activity, mental alertness, and enthusiasm
  • Good general health, physical stamina, and emotional stability are essential
  • Ability to hear within normal range and communicate effectively in person or via telephone in a manner that can be understood by those with whom the person is speaking, including a diverse population
  • Ability to move quickly to address emergency or potentially dangerous situations
  • Ability to move about the building and the organization as needed
  • Ability to work outdoors in various types of weather conditions
  • Ability to bend and sit in confined spaces and, on occasion, must lift up to 35 lbs 


Qualification 

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field
  • Minimum 2 years of experience teaching early years or elementary school children
  • Experience with the Primary Years Program (PYP) of the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) preferred


Compensation and benefits

Our compensation is based on education and years of experience. The salary range for this full-time teaching position for the 2025-26 school year is $79,903 (BA Step 3) to $123,672 (Ph.D. Step 23).
