Job Description - Economics Teacher 2025-2026

Position: Economics Teacher (Grades 11–12)

About Mystic Valley Regional Charter School (MVRCS):
Founded in 1998 and located in Malden, MA, Mystic Valley Regional Charter School serves over 1,600 students from Kindergarten through Grade 12.

MVRCS is committed to academic excellence through a combination of exceptional teaching, a carefully chosen curriculum delivered with fidelity, high expectations, and a traditional instructional model. These core principles have consistently placed Mystic Valley among the top-performing public schools in Massachusetts, throughout New England, and across the nation.

Our students are well-prepared for post-secondary success, a reflection of the rigor and quality of their K–12 education at Mystic Valley. All students adhere to a school-wide dress code and attend 200 days of instruction annually—20 more than the typical public school. Additionally, the school day is extended by 60 minutes, providing students with increased learning time in a structured and focused academic environment.

Job Summary:
Mystic Valley is seeking a qualified and enthusiastic Economics Teacher. The position focuses on delivering high-quality instruction in Economics to Grades 11–12 students as part of the International Baccalaureate (IB) program. The ideal candidate will be well-versed in IB methodology and demonstrate flexibility to contribute meaningfully to either the Math or History department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach five subject-area classes daily in Economics.

  • Implement the IB curriculum and Core Knowledge methodology with fidelity and clarity.

  • Design and deliver lessons grounded in clear, measurable learning objectives.

  • Regularly assess student progress and provide timely feedback through progress reports and report cards.

  • Administer standardized assessments as directed by the department chair and school leadership.

  • Collaborate weekly with departmental colleagues and the Department Chair to align curriculum, share instructional strategies, and analyze data to improve student outcomes.

  • Maintain accurate records of student performance, attendance, and assessment data.

  • Consistently implement the school's assertive discipline model to maintain a positive and productive classroom environment.

  • Attend all staff meetings and actively participate in professional development opportunities.

  • Provide academic support to students outside of regular class time as needed.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Department Chair and/or Assistant Director.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics required; significant coursework or a minor in Mathematics or History preferred.

  • Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret data to inform instruction.

  • Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues.

  • Proven classroom management and organizational skills.

  • Familiarity with subject-area pedagogy, content standards, and applicable laws and policies.

  • Commitment to high academic expectations for all students.

  • Experience evaluating student performance and writing reports summarizing findings.

  • Strong collaborative and leadership skills; ability to thrive in a team-oriented environment.

  • Successful completion of applicable MTEL exams within one year of employment.

Evaluation:
The position is evaluated annually and is considered a yearly appointment.
