The opportunity
The Economist, Carbon and Natural Capital

will fill a critical role within the MIMTA Economic Research Team as we continue to grow the business alongside expanding investment opportunities in the natural capital landscape!
We are seeking a highly motivated individual who can work well both independently and as part of a larger team, with professional experience in a deadline-oriented, results-driven environment with a continually evolving set of priorities, analyzing and synthesizing market data in the carbon credit, timberland and agriculture sectors. This role will deliver actionable analysis and market forecasts incorporating available information on supply, demand, prices, costs and policy to help inform investment strategy.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of economic fundamentals and a genuine interest in natural resource asset management, along with work experience working in a multi-stakeholder, project driven environment generating and delivering market analysis and forecasts of carbon credit and natural resource commodity markets that incorporate the latest macroeconomic and market specific developments. Ability to demonstrate a detailed understanding and/or practical experience performing market, economic or financial analysis of global carbon credit markets is required.
Responsibilities
Complete the economic research and analysis associated with the intersection of timberland and farmland with carbon markets, ESG and impact related investments including recurring market and price forecasts, assessing the impact of the latest policies, along with market specific, and macroeconomic developments
Effectively communicate the results of economic research on carbon, timberland and farmland related investments to internal and external partners via presentations, research papers and conversations
Support the production of the recurring update of MIM TA carbon market indicators dashboard
Key point of contact for acquisitions, business development, and portfolio management and client services teams for carbon market and climate risk related needs
Manage, maintain, and use third-party data/information subscriptions related to carbon markets
Provide ad-hoc support across the research team to support timberland and farmland projects and strategic initiatives as necessary
Conduct in-depth research pertaining to new investment strategies, markets and geographies
Develop and support initiatives to build and maintain MIM TA Thought Leadership position in the timberland and farmland and wider natural capital investment space
Support the evolution and growth of MIM TA product offerings and the deployment of client capital, through actively participating in research identifying, quantifying and documenting investment opportunities and competitive advantages in the timberland and farmland investment space
Attend and present at industry conferences and other relevant internal and external meetings
May also be required to prepare presentations, financial analyses, management memorandums, and other documents for the MIM TA Management team

What we are looking for
5+ years of experience forecasting natural resource-related markets in a professional setting
Graduate degree with a major in business, finance, or economics required
Professional or academic experience conducting carbon market research and analysis
High degree of self-motivation to work both independently and collaboratively; comfort with ambiguity in problem-solving
Excellent understanding and experience with the practical application of financial principles, and economic and statistical analysis
Ability to think independently and develop new ideas from fruition to implementation, and to work collaboratively.
Able to work through issues from high-level to operational details
Excellent research skills and ability to present analyses in a clear and concise manner (verbal and written) are essential functions for this position
Must have strong presentation skills to represent MIM TA to clients and others in the external community
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to interact and build relationships with individuals at all levels of the organization and with external parties
Strong organizational and project management skills commensurate with prioritizing, managing and completing multiple projects concurrently
Proficiency using Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint and other relevant statistical software; experience using GIS preferred

Salary & Benefits
The annual base salary for this role is listed below.
Primary Location
Boston, Massachusetts
Salary range is expected to be between
$89,000.00 USD - $141,000.00 USD

The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training.
