Summary/objective
As an Emergency Room Technician, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality emergency care and support to patients in a fast-paced critical access hospital. Under the supervision of registered nurses and providers, you will perform essential clinical procedures, assist in emergency response efforts, and ensure the safe transport and monitoring of patients. Your responsibilities will include documenting care activities, maintain equipment, and adhering to safety protocols. You will work collaboratively with the healthcare team, providing compassionate patient advocacy and support while continuously enhancing your skills and knowledge in emergency medical care. Your dedication and expertise will contribute significantly to the efficiency and effectiveness of the emergency department, ensuring patients receive timely and appropriate care
Essential Functions
· Provide basic life support and emergency care to patients under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN) or Provider.
· Perform assessments within EMT/CNA scope of practice, vital signs, and documenting findings accurately.
· Prioritize patient care based on the severity of conditions.
· Assist in various clinical procedures, including wound care, splinting, and casting.
· Perform electrocardiograms (EKGs) and specimen collection for laboratory testing.
· Respond promptly to emergency situations within the hospital, providing immediate care and support.
· Assist in resuscitation efforts, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs).
· Safely transport patients within the hospital, ensuring continuous monitoring and care during transit.
· Assist with the transfer of patients to and from stretchers, beds, and wheelchairs.
· Ensure the availability and functionality of emergency equipment and supplies.
· Sterilize and maintain medical instruments and equipment according to established protocols.
· Monitor inventory levels and restock supplies as needed.
· Accurately document patient care activities, observations, and interventions in medical records.
· Communicate effectively with the healthcare team, patients, and families.
· Relay critical information to RNs, Providers, and other healthcare professionals promptly.
· Adhere to infection control protocols and safety standards to prevent the spread of infection.
· Comply with hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
· Participate in continuous education and training programs to stay updated with current practices.
· Provide emotional support and reassurance to patients and their families.
· Work collaboratively with the healthcare team to provide high-quality, patient-centered care.
· Participate in team meetings, case discussions, and quality improvement initiatives.
Professional Development:
· Preferred EMT certification, CNA accepted and complete required continuing education.
· Stay informed about advancements in emergency care and integrate new knowledge into practice.

· Technicians must be prepared to manage multiple tasks and patients simultaneously.
· The ER environment involves dealing with acute medical emergencies and trauma cases, often under significant time constraints.

· The emergency room functions 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
· ER Technicians must be flexible with their schedules and prepared for shift work, including long hours.
