7p-7a Night Shift


JOB SUMMARY:


Provides emergency care to patients under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and Physician.  Oversight for clinical practice will be provided by the Medical Director. Skill set approved by NC-OEMS will be utilized, within the parameters established by the Nursing and Medical director leadership. The ED Tech ll collaborates with multidisciplinary team members to provide age / developmentally appropriate care in accordance with standards of care and practice for the Emergency Department setting.


 


QUALIFICATIONS:


Education and Formal Training:  Advanced EMT Certificate or Paramedic certificate, three years Emergency Services experience preferred. Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required. NC-OEMS certification as EMT-I or EMT-P mandatory. Critical care certificate or national registry paramedic preferred.
Maintains certification through affiliation with approved NC-OEMS education provider
.


Work Experience:   Three years Emergency Services preferred.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:  Demonstrates a high level of mental and emotional tolerance and even temperament when dealing with ill people; uses tact, sensitivity, sound judgment, and a professional attitude when relating with patients, families, and co-workers at all times.  Actively functions as a patient advocate. Demonstrates an ability to respond to changing workloads and performs in an accurate and precise manner in crisis and emergency situations when time is critical.  Uses support staff in an efficient and cost conscious manner.


ED Tech ll Tasks: (NCBON position Statement: Delegation: NAll credentialed as Advanced EMT or Paramedic.)


1.     Performs all functions of an ED Tech l


2.     Function as unit secretary navigates EPIC produces patient discharge instructions, orders ancillary tests and/or procedures, enters charges and completes final checks on physician/nursing documentation to ensure tests and/or procedures are executed prior to discharge and prints documentation for patient admissions or transfers


3.     Start peripheral IV with non-medicated fluid to keep line open.


4.     Insert and maintain peripheral IV lock with Normal Saline or Heparin in Normal Saline


5.     Initiate/monitor oxygen including setting of flow rate


6.     Apply sterile dressings to wounds less than 48 hours old.


7.     Perform basic life support including use of AED


8.     Employ bag-valve-mask respiratory ventilation as a part of code team activities


9.     Apply pulse oximeter and transcutaneous CO2 monitor


10.  Perform phlebotomy


11.  Perform capillary blood sugar analysis


12.  Perform 12 lead EKG test


13.  Recognize 12 lead EKG and cardiac monitor arrythmias


14.  Provide control of bleeding with use of dressings, pressure, and elevation of body part


15.  Provide spinal immobilization and apply splints


16.  Insert Oropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal airways


17.  Initiate triage. Can obtain patient’s name and date of birth, chief complaint, and baseline vitals.


18.  Delivers safe, accurate and timely patient care that conforms to AMH standards departmental goals and the following job duties:     


ED Tech ll Role:                   


1.     Provides patient/family centered care focusing on the physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, religious, and environmental needs.  This includes rapid evaluation of life threatening emergencies, implementation of prescribed therapies within scope of practice, collaboration with nursing and medical team to establish treatment goals


2.     Maintains a safe, therapeutic, and healing environment through ensuring patient privacy and responsive, respectful, accepting, and professional behavior.  Utilizes and promotes the use of technology and equipment to enhance the safety of patients and staff.


3.     Communicates effectively to promote sharing of information throughout the continuum of care and as an effective member of the healthcare team.


4.     Demonstrates the ability to function in a professional setting through active participation in a professional practice model.  This includes adherence to standards of care, participation in peer review and professional development promoting leadership and clinical excellence, effective team skills, autonomous practice and acknowledgment of accountability for actions and critical thinking.


5.      Acts as a patient advocate throughout the continuum of care including all patient settings and in the community.


6.     Identifies clinical priorities and initiates action to improve patient outcomes.
