Job Description - Editorial Manager

Summary:

We are looking for an entrepreneurial and driven Editorial Manager to help us execute our mission to bring the best new fiction forward by evaluating and identifying great books. We are looking for someone who has a unique and differentiated taste and perspective that helps you identify truly great books. This is a great opportunity for someone with strong taste, a passion for discovering and championing emerging authors, and the ability to manage a process effectively.

What you’ll do…

This job requires a blend of exquisite taste, industry relations, and project management.

  • Read a high volume of titles across multiple categories of fiction and some nonfiction.
  • Prepare slates of recommendations to the Editorial Director for review and clearly articulate your view on why these titles should be featured.
  • Understand and articulate your personal taste, the taste of our membership, and where these do and do not intersect.
  • Effectively identify and recommend titles that become hits and weed out titles that are not strong enough to become selections.
  • Organize and utilize all available resources to help identify great titles, including freelance readers, industry relationships and news, and other sources.
  • Assign titles to full-time and freelance readers, review and synthesize feedback, present recommendations on next steps to the Editorial Director, and deliver on deadlines.
  • Serve as an effective industry relations professional by leveraging existing relationships and building new relationships to identify new opportunities.
  • Contribute effectively to the Editorial Team’s scope of work by covering one more of the following important operational areas: podcast content creation and production; industry presentations and partnerships; book production operations; or other areas as identified.

About you:

  • 5+ years of relevant experience in an editorial, content development, agency, or other entertainment industry-related role.
  • You have exceptional taste, know what makes a book great, can communicate this effectively, and are willing to take risks.
  • Expert-level familiarity with multiple areas of the adult fiction landscape, including authors, title, publishers, agents, screenwriters, or other entertainment industry players.
  • Existing relationships across the industry players above, and the demonstrated ability to use those relationships to achieve business outcomes.
  • Demonstrated experience operating in an organized manner within a demanding and high-functioning process.
  • Ability to create organized and well-formatted decks, memos, and other work products and present to stakeholders.
  • You are a strong match for the company workstyles identified on our careers page.

Base Salary Range: $90,000 - $130,000
