Job Description

Primary Function: To foster the academic achievement of Club members within the framework of the organization’s Future Ready program model. Academic assistance will include, but not be limited to tutoring, homework assistance, educational games and other small groups and interest clubs relative to academic achievement, on-time grade promotion, and high school graduation.
Role and Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver fun and age-appropriate academic programming daily for youth (grades K-12); prepare and follow a day-to-day program schedule based on the needs of Club members; conduct programming during all program hours. 
  • Ensure STEAM programming is fully integrated in academic programs.
  • Continually evaluate the effectiveness of all academic programming, utilizing relative assessment tools using technology and other relevant tools.
  • Recognize and coordinate volunteers and partnerships to help meet academic needs of members.
  • Track members’ daily program participation in Power Hour, Project Learn, and STEAM programming.
  • Keep Club updated and informed on academic enrichment progress and goals.
Supervision
  • Oversee proper academic record-keeping procedures as required for timely reporting.
  • Ensure productive and effective performance by all program staff and volunteers to ensure coordination of programming and integration of the academic enrichment program.
  • Supervise interns and volunteers to ensure proper delivery of the educational programs. 
  • Provide ongoing feedback and regular appraisal to program staff and volunteers, ensuring adherence to Club policies.
  • Serve as acting Club Director in her/his absence and that of the Director of Program Operations.

Measurement
  • Identify academic measuring tool/partners to ensure all members’ reading and math skills are assessed.
  • Work in tandem with leadership team to identify academic gaps and resources needed to drive success.
  • Oversee implementation and data evaluation of all academic assessments.
Collaboration
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with feeder schools to make the linkage between school day and after school.
  • Assist Club Director with establishing and maintaining annual program goals, reaching desired outcomes, and developing community partnerships to enhance programming and community awareness.
  • Conduct a needs assessment and develop wish lists for resources, supplies, and volunteers.
  • Work in collaboration with the Business Manager to recruit, train, and retain academic volunteers.
  • Coordinate and support special programs and/or events directly related to the academic enrichment program.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with Club members that are conducive to their growth and development.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe environment for Club members and staff, including routine Club maintenance and clean-up activities.
  • Participate in on-going training to foster personal and professional growth and development.
  • Perform other job-related tasks as assigned.
Relationships
Internal: Maintain close contact with Club staff and volunteers to provide the best possible program delivery.
External: Maintain close contact with community agencies and schools to enhance program awareness and participation.
Physical Requirements/Work Environment:
Minimal physical effort required to sit, stand, bend, stoop, lift and walk. However, activities will be varied due to working with youth and could require running and extended periods of standing and walking. Maximum unassisted lift = 50 lbs. Average lift less than 25 lbs. Requires ability to use a computer, various standard and specialized software and database systems, keyboard, calculator and typical office machines. Requires travel to other Clubs and community agencies for meetings and training events.
Environmental Requirements:
Inside average office environment. Average office noise levels. No personal protective equipment required. Ambient temperature between 68- and 76-degrees Fahrenheit.
Education Requirement:
Bachelor’s degree in education preferred.

Skills/Knowledge Required:
  • Minimum of five years in academic role with students K-12.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong time management and project prioritization skills
  • Ability to work effectively with technology.
  • Thorough knowledge of the developmental learning stages of children
  • Experience in providing educational programs for youth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with feeder schools.
  • Experience in development and execution of I.E.Ps
  • Ability to effectively handle the discipline of Club members.
  • CPR and First Aid certification required (training will be provided)
  • Driver’s license and ability to operate Club vehicles required.
