The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Description of Work

If you are looking for a rewarding career, please consider the EEO Intake Coordinator (HR Technician III) opportunity with the NC Department of Adult Correction. This position is part of the Human Resources Team (EEO Section) and involves working with employment discrimination, harassment, and retaliation issues related to Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO). This position serves as the Intake Coordinator for the EEO Office and will be a point of contact for technical questions and concerns from employees, supervisors, and managers regarding complaints related to allegations of employment discrimination, harassment, and retaliation and related policies and procedures. Job responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

• Receiving questions from individuals seeking information regarding the filing of complaints of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation.
• Extracting data from multiple files and/or sources.
• Ascertaining the nature of information requests and assisting individuals on clear-cut matters.
• Referring complex situations that require additional oversight to HR / EEO management.
• Managing the receipt of all internal employment related discrimination complaints.
• Performing initial review and processing complaints.
• Entering and processing complaints into the Employee Relations System (ERS).
• Gathering facts necessary to make a determination regarding jurisdiction.
• Preparing and processing notification correspondence.
• Assigning cases to EEO investigators.
• Preparing initial paper case file for employment-related discrimination complaints filed by current and former employees applicable under state and federal laws.
• Gathering preliminary facts for complaints filed to determine the factual aspects of the complaint within 3 business days of receipt.
• Providing review of complaints to ascertain if the matter(s) of concern are within EEO jurisdiction and that the issues and bases are clearly defined.
• Handling sensitive situations and information while maintaining confidentiality.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
• Expressing ideas clearly and concisely.
• Exercising good judgment in analyzing situations and making decisions within areas of responsibility.
• Learning and applying rules, procedures, and practices for various HR management activities or personnel actions.
• Creating and organizing office case files/data, and process documents.
• Retrieving and handle confidential information with tact and discretion.
• Preparing and maintain accurate reports and records.
• Operate a personal computer
• Using software including Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Communicate clearly in written and oral form
• Obtaining factual information
• Multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment.
• Communicating effectively with internal and external customers.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Salary Range: $41,206 -$72,113

Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement. The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:

  • Documented Knowledge of North Carolina employment laws, discrimination, harassment, and retaliation EEO laws.
  • Documented Knowledge of policies and/or procedures governing the filing of employment-related discrimination complaints.
  • Documented Knowledge tracking employee data electronically using an HRIS (Human Resources Information System - i.e. BEACON, KRONOS, SAP, PeopleSoft, etc.) or spreadsheets or databases.

Veterans’ and National Guard Preference

Minimum Education and Experience

Associate’s degree, typically in Human Resources or relevant field from an appropriately accredited institution and 2 years of experience required;
