Job Description - EHR Trainer

The Position:

The Electronic Health Record (EHR) Trainer is responsible for developing and delivering effective training on EHR and practice management systems to both clinical and non-clinical staff. This role supports workflow optimization, ensures consistent documentation practices, and serves as a go-to resource for EHR-related issues. The ideal candidate has superuser-level experience in an EHR system (NextGen highly preferred) and a strong understanding of healthcare operations across multiple departments.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive EHR training programs tailored to the unique needs of clinical staff, front office teams, and administrative users.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on EHR functionalities, offering support, guidance, and solutions to end-users across the organization.
  • Collaborate with clinical leadership, revenue cycle, and IT teams to assess training needs, align workflows, and support adoption of best practices.
  • Create engaging, easy-to-follow training materials, including manuals, tip sheets, and multimedia content to support various learning styles.
  • Facilitate onboarding sessions for new employees and ongoing education for current staff to ensure consistent and effective EHR usage.
  • Support the implementation of new EHR modules, upgrades, and template enhancements by conducting testing, validation, and user preparation.
  • Monitor training effectiveness, track user proficiency, and identify opportunities for refinement or retraining.
  • Actively contribute to initiatives focused on process improvement, documentation accuracy, and cross-functional collaboration.

Requirements

 Skills:

  • In-depth understanding of clinical and administrative workflows in a healthcare setting, with the ability to train and support a broad range of user roles.
  • Demonstrated superuser-level experience in an EHR environment, with strong proficiency in documentation, scheduling, and reporting tools.
  • Proven ability to design and deliver engaging training sessions, both in-person and virtually.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a focus on clarity, professionalism, and responsiveness.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities; capable of diagnosing issues and developing practical solutions.
  • Adaptability to evolving systems, processes, and user needs in a dynamic healthcare environment.

Education/ Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, Education, or a related field strongly preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in a healthcare environment with EHR superuser responsibilities.
  • Superuser experience in an EHR system is required; experience with NextGen is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations, data privacy standards, and documentation compliance.
  • Familiarity with adult learning principles and instructional design is a plus.

Additional Job Details:

  • This is a Full-Time position.
  •  Candidates must live in or near Fort Collins or Denver to be considered for this position.
  •  Willingness to travel to clinic locations as needed, primarily in the Cheyenne, Fort Collins, and Denver surrounding areas.
  • Compensation for this role will be $78,500- $94,900 annually based on experience/certification(s).
