Job Description - EHS Coordinator

Description

We are seeking a committed and capable Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Coordinator to support and lead safety and compliance efforts across our operations. This position is based on-site and will be responsible for promoting a strong safety culture, supporting regulatory compliance, and collaborating with operations and leadership to develop and maintain effective EHS programs.

The EHS Coordinator must be highly organized, proficient in Microsoft Office, and detail oriented. This role involves both administrative responsibilities (such as documentation and reporting) and field work (such as inspections and incident response). The ability to perform in both areas is essential.

We understand that the ideal candidate may not meet every qualification or possess experience in all subject areas. A candidate who demonstrates strength in most key responsibilities, such as safety or environmental compliance, and shows willingness to learn may be considered. For example, we can train the environmental compliance component for a candidate with strong safety experience, or vice versa.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as a subject-matter resource for environmental, health, and safety topics.
  • Maintain current knowledge of relevant regulations, standards, and best practices.
  • Obtain or maintain required certifications and training.
  • Support compliance efforts in the following areas:
  • Hearing Conservation
  • Silica Exposure
  • Fall Protection
  • Confined Space Entry
  • Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
  • Machine Guarding and Risk Assessments
  • Collaborate with operations to identify safety risks, develop action plans, and implement improvements.
  • Oversee environmental compliance efforts including NCDAQ recordkeeping and stormwater sampling at plant locations.
  • Develop and coordinate EHS training programs such as new hire safety orientation, forklift certification, and OSHA-mandated training.
  • Create and manage the EHS Management System, including documented policies, procedures, and work instructions.
  • Lead processes related to incident reporting, safety audits, job hazard analysis, and corrective actions.
  • Respond to all vehicle accidents to conduct initial investigations and assist with claim reporting in coordination with the CHRSO.
  • Assist the CHRSO with workers’ compensation claims and the transitional work program.
  • Monitor and report on EHS Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Maintain regulatory records in compliance with OSHA, NCDEQ, and other applicable agencies in an organized and secure manner.
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and teamwork through leadership and example.
  • Support both internal and external audits by providing timely and accurate documentation.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • A minimum of five (5) years of documented experience in an EHS role is required. This may be accepted in lieu of a degree.
  • A bachelor’s degree in environmental health & safety or a related field is preferred but not required with equivalent experience.
  • OSHA 501 or OSHA 510 Trainer Certification is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with OSHA, NCDEQ, and other relevant regulatory requirements and best practices.
  • Experience conducting audits, preparing training materials, and supporting compliance initiatives.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across all levels of the organization and support a positive safety culture.

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Additional Hours: Overtime may be required for emergency response or quarterly Saturday safety committee meetings.
