Job Description - EHS Manager

As a leader and innovator in the snack food industry for over 50 years, J&J Snack Foods provides branded snack foods to foodservice and retail supermarket outlets across the U.S. Its products include such icons as SUPERPRETZEL, ICEE, and Dippin’ Dots along with other key brands like LUIGI’S Real Italian Ice, The Funnel Cake Factory Funnel Cakes, and Hola Churros. POSITION SUMMARY: The EHS Manager is responsible for ensuring that employees follow health and safety regulations and supervises operations to promote the wellbeing of the team. Duties include using safety research to create policies that eliminate workplace hazards, documenting accidents in the workplace and investigating the circumstances of an illness or injury.  


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  



  • Monitor the removal of biological, physical, or chemical hazards from a workplace. 



  • Provide safety training for employees on policies, regulations, and procedures. 



  • Advise the company’s administrative team on safety issues and compliance in specific projects and operations. 



  • Inspect and verify company compliance with relevant safety regulations. 



  • Maintain accurate and current records in accordance with guidelines. 



  • Analyze incident reports, metrics, and injury case studies in order to institute changes that lead to a safer environment. 



  • Develop new policies related to safety, health, and environmental concerns to include implementing new equipment, creating training programs, or adopting strategies to improve productivity while maintaining compliance with safety standards. 



  • Advise and lead employees on various safety-related topics. 



  • Work with HR to set up a new employee on-boarding process for safety. 



  • Check if all the employees are acting in adherence with rules and regulations. 



  • Prepare and present reports on accidents and violations and determine causes. 



  • Oversee workplace repair, installations and any other work that could harm employees' safety. 



  • Conduct safety investigations and ensure corrective actions.  



  • Performs all other related duties as assigned. 


COMPETENCIES:  



  • Certified in risk management and health/safety management. 



  • Thorough knowledge of health and safety laws and guidelines 



  • Extensive attention to detail to distinguish safety hazards. 



  • Ability to provide detailed reports and develop safety procedures. 



  • Good understanding of data analysis and risk assessment 



  • Good organizational, leadership and motivational skills 



  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills 



  • Ability to recognize when safety conditions need improvement. 

  • Ability to prioritize tasks especially when handling an accident or incident. 


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:  



  • A bachelor’s degree in environmental health and safety or a related field OR 3-5 years’ experience as a safety manager or similar role.  



  • In-depth knowledge of OSHA and EPA standards 



  • Strong interpersonal skills. 



  • Ability to lead and teach a team. 



  • Great attention to detail. 



  • Critical-thinking and problem-solving skills. 



  • Ability to explain technical concepts in simple terms. 



  • Excellent organizational skills 



  • Experience with writing policies and procedures for health and safety 



  • Familiarity with conducting data analysis and reporting statistics 



  • Proficient in MS Office 



  • Critical thinker and problem-solving skills 



  • Team player 



  • Good time-management skills 



  • Great interpersonal and communication skills 

US Salary Pay Range

$80,000 - $85,000 USD
