Job Description - Electrical Code Reviewer


Armand Corporation, an award-winning M/WBE Construction Management firm celebrating over 34 years in the industry, is seeking a full-time Electrical Engineer/Code Reviewer to join our construction management team. 

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college in Electrical engineering, as well as at least 5 years of experience with building electrical codes and systems in a construction setting, including medium voltage (about 600 volts), fire alarms, cathodic protection, and radio frequency.

If selected, candidates will need to provide digital proof of licensure and certification for all U.S.-based accolades, including academic degree, before time of interview. Information provided is handled with discretion and will be used purely for benefit of employment with various government agency clients and associated background checks.

This position will be full-time, On-site in Jersey City, New Jersey.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Reporting to the DSU Manager, the Electrical Code Reviewer provides expert guidance on electrical design submissions for Tenant Alteration Applications (TAA) and Design-Audit projects across Port Authority facilities.
  • The role focuses on detailed, article-by-article reviews that ensure each design complies fully with the relevant electrical, fire-alarm, life-safety, energy, and communications codes, as well as all PANYNJ technical standards, before construction begins.
  • Responsibilities include downloading, logging, and previewing electronic TAA submissions (drawings, load calculations, specifications, reports).
  • Conduct comprehensive code reviews of low- and medium-voltage systems (over 600 V), fire-alarm systems, lighting, cathodic protection, RF/DAS, and telecommunications infrastructure, ensuring adherence to the established codes and standards.
  •  Issue well-documented written comments that reference specific code articles, Port Authority technical standards, and DSU checkpoints.
  • Consolidate comments from interdisciplinary reviews (mechanical, structural, life-safety, IT/Comm) into a single memorandum and share it with tenant architects and engineers of record.
  • Lead or support meetings with tenant design teams to clarify findings, negotiate compliant alternatives, and finalize comment cycles.
  •  Coordinate with Port Authority facility staff to assign reviewers, track approvals, and facilitate project progression through SharePoint and e-Builder workflows.
  • Maintain internal checklists as codes are updated and mentor junior reviewers on best practices in electrical design and safe work principles.

    The following codes and standards are relevant to this role:
    - NFPA 72 Fire Alarm and Signaling Code
    - ANSI/TIA & BICSI structured cabling and telecommunications standards
    - PANYNJ Design Guidelines & Technical Standards (medium-voltage, lighting, communications, security, life-safety)
    - Energy codes: ASHRAE 90.1, IECC
    - Specialized areas: cathodic protection (NACE), RF systems (FCC), 13.2 kV distribution equipment
    - National Electrical Code – NFPA 70 (NYC & NJ editions)
    - NYC Building Code (2022) and NJ Uniform Construction Code (Electrical & Energy Sub-codes)
    - NFPA 70E, NFPA 110, NFPA 780
    - IEEE grounding, protective relay, and power system standards (e.g., IEEE Std 80, 142, C37 series)142, C37 series)

QUALIFICATIONS include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college in Electrical Engineering
  • At least 5 years of experience with building electrical codes and systems in a construction setting, including medium voltage (about 600 volts), fire alarms, cathodic protection, and radio frequency
  • Demonstrated mastery of the codes & standards above, with a track record of issuing clear, enforceable plan-review comments
  • Experience acting as technical liaison between building owners/tenants and multidisciplinary design teams
  • Professional Engineer’s license in State of New York and/or New Jersey.
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office, Share Point, Trimble, Bluebeam, ProCore, Adobe Acrobat, and other relevant construction software.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States
  • Must be fluent in English (both written and spoken)
