The successful candidate will work closely with engineering, manufacturing, and technical teams to develop reliable electrical solutions for specialized commercial and government vehicles.
This position is located in Stevensville, MD. You must be willing to commute 5x a week on site or relocate.
Design and develop complete electrical power systems for custom-built and modified vehicles.
Create detailed electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and electrical system layouts using CAD software.
Design and integrate 12V/24V DC and 110/120V AC electrical systems.
Develop electrical power distribution systems incorporating generators, inverters, batteries, shore power, and related components.
Perform electrical calculations, including power requirements, load analysis, wire sizing, circuit protection, and component selection.
Integrate electrical systems supporting HVAC, lighting, communication equipment, networking hardware, sensors, and specialized technologies.
Ensure electrical systems are designed for reliability, safety, maintainability, and performance in demanding operating environments.
Independently develop accurate electrical schematics and technical drawings using SolidWorks Electrical or comparable CAD software.
Create detailed wiring diagrams identifying electrical components, wire gauges, terminals, connectors, bus bars, and circuit protection devices.
Produce complete engineering documentation that manufacturing technicians can use to assemble and install electrical systems.
Develop customer-facing electrical documentation for system operation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and future modifications.
Review and improve existing electrical designs, drawings, and engineering documentation.
Help establish and maintain consistent electrical engineering standards and best practices.
Collaborate with mechanical engineers, manufacturing technicians, and other engineering disciplines to integrate electrical systems into specialized vehicles.
Support electrical system development from initial concept through design, fabrication, installation, and testing.
Troubleshoot electrical design and integration challenges during manufacturing.
Evaluate electrical components and equipment to ensure compatibility and proper system operation.
Provide technical guidance to engineering and production personnel.
Identify opportunities to improve electrical system reliability, efficiency, manufacturability, and overall performance.
Candidates must demonstrate the following technical capabilities:
1. Electrical System Design Experience
Professional experience designing electrical power systems for mobile platforms, vehicles, marine applications, or closely related systems.
Ability to design and understand complete electrical systems rather than isolated components.
2. Electrical Schematics & CAD Proficiency
Hands-on experience independently creating detailed electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
Proficiency with SolidWorks Electrical, AutoCAD Electrical, or comparable electrical CAD software.
Ability to produce accurate, manufacturing-ready electrical drawings and technical deliverables.
3. AC/DC Electrical Power Systems
Strong understanding of AC and DC electrical principles, particularly 12V/24V DC and 110/120V AC applications.
Experience designing or integrating electrical power distribution systems.
Knowledge of electrical loads, circuit protection, wiring, grounding, and component selection.
4. Power Generation & Energy Storage Integration
Experience working with integrated electrical systems involving generators, inverters, batteries, or external power connections.
Understanding of how multiple electrical power sources interact within a complete system.
5. Hands-On Engineering & System Integration
Experience supporting electrical designs through manufacturing, installation, testing, or commissioning.
Ability to troubleshoot electrical systems and resolve integration challenges.
Understanding of how electrical systems interact with mechanical equipment and other onboard technologies.
6. Technical Documentation
Ability to develop complete wiring diagrams, electrical schematics, and engineering documentation.
Experience producing drawings that technicians can use to manufacture, assemble, install, and troubleshoot electrical systems.
The following experience is highly desirable but not required:
5–10 years of professional electrical engineering experience.
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
Experience in marine electrical engineering, naval systems, RV manufacturing, specialty vehicles, or automotive electrical integration.
Proficiency with SolidWorks Electrical.
Experience designing complete electrical systems for boats, ships, RVs, emergency vehicles, military vehicles, or mobile command centers.
Experience integrating Cummins generators or comparable power generation equipment.
Knowledge of lithium battery systems, battery management systems, inverters, and shore power connections.
Experience with mobile HVAC systems, interior/exterior lighting, emergency lighting, and auxiliary power systems.
Experience integrating radios, communications equipment, network racks, sensors, and specialized electronics.
Familiarity with electrical system reliability requirements for government, defense, homeland security, or mission-critical applications.
Experience working in a custom manufacturing, fabrication, or engineered-to-order environment.
Experience improving engineering processes, establishing technical standards, or mentoring junior engineers.
Familiarity with applicable electrical safety standards and industry-specific design requirements.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on Electrical Engineer with experience designing complete electrical systems for mobile applications.
This individual should be comfortable working directly in CAD, creating detailed electrical schematics, selecting electrical components, and understanding how generators, inverters, batteries, AC/DC distribution, and onboard equipment function together.
Candidates from marine electrical engineering, RV manufacturing, specialty vehicle design, or mobile power system integration are strongly encouraged to apply.
We are particularly interested in engineers who have worked on complete electrical systems from initial design through manufacturing and installation, rather than individuals whose experience is limited to a single component of a larger system.
The successful candidate will bring strong technical knowledge, practical engineering experience, and the ability to help improve electrical engineering deliverables across a growing engineering team.
