Job Description - Electrical Instrumentation Control Technician



 












Purpose of the job



To provide full maintenance service for electrical, instrumentation, and control systems at three production buildings at the Windsor Locks site. Troubleshoot and analyze systems and component malfunctions by investigating process conditions that are leading to failure in order to determine the corrective actions. Make recommendations for system changes to meet operational, safety and environmental requirements. Assist in engineering capital projects.



 












Main responsibility areas



 


Essential Functions and Primary Responsibilities:



  • Troubleshoot, install, and repair electrical components such as wiring, conduit, cable tray, switches, analog circuits, motors, variable frequency drives, PLC's, power distribution lighting, etc.

  • Be fluent in PLC programming and drive parameterization.

  • Work with voltages ranging from 24 VDC to 480 VAC.

  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance tasks, maintain calibrations/ISO records of process control instrumentation.

  • Assist Engineering with system improvement projects and retrofits of old equipment.

  • Participate in continuous improvement teams and root cause analysis for machine breakdowns.

Experience and education


(minimum level of knowledge and skills to fulfill one’s responsibilities)



Work experience


 




  • Associate degree or equivalent industry experience

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics

  • Minimum of five years troubleshooting experience with PLC hardware and software.

  • Strong electrical, drive, PLC troubleshooting skills

  • Must have experience in PLC/VFD and HMI programming languages, including function block/ladder

  • Ability to use Microsoft Office products

  • SAP experience preferred but not required

  • Must be flexible to work off shift when required. Significant bonus payment for call-ins

  • Must be able to participate in the week-end rotational shift, approximately once every other month, with bonus payments.



Formal education
