The Electrical Maintenance Skilled Worker Apprenticeship offers you the opportunity to earn a paycheck while you learn a skilled profession—with hands-on training, classroom instruction, and the support of Johns Hopkins every step of the way.  As an Electrical Maintenance Skilled Worker, you will perform maintenance, installation, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical equipment, systems, and components throughout Johns Hopkins. You'll work under general supervision while developing the practical skills and technical knowledge needed for a successful career in electrical maintenance.


 


Earn While You Learn


Selected candidates will enroll in a four-year, Maryland state-approved apprenticeship program while working full-time at Johns Hopkins.


 


Here's what you can expect:



  • Full-time employment: 40 hours per week with Johns Hopkins

  • Paid education: Johns Hopkins covers tuition, books, and related educational expenses

  • Hands-on training: Complete 2,000 hours of on-the-job training each year while gaining valuable real-world experience

  • Classroom instruction: Attend 6 hours of evening classes per week during the Fall and Spring semesters

  • Progressive development: Complete assessments throughout the program to demonstrate your growing knowledge and skills

  • Potential pay increases: You may be eligible for step increases as you successfully complete annual program requirements

  • Career credential: Successfully complete the program and the required State-administered examination to earn a Maryland-approved Apprentice license.

Requirements



  • High school diploma or equivalent required.  

  • Successful completion of an Electrical Apprenticeship Program which is approved/accepted by local or state government. 

  • At least more than 1 year work experience, requires successful completion of 1 year (or current enrollment in) formal training in an approved electrical trade program at a vocational or technical school, college, or apprenticeship sponsor organization

  • Fundamental/introductory knowledge of electrical techniques, codes, procedures and materials.

  • Knowledge of safety rules, procedures and practices, including the proper use of safety equipment as defined by OSHA and industry standards.

Salary Range: Minimum 17.99/hour - Maximum 20.88/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
