Job Description - Electroencephalography (EEG) Technologist


 Electroencephalography (EEG) Technologist

Location: Seattle, WA (VA Puget Sound Health Care System)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM or 7:30 AM–4:00 PM (occasional overtime/weekends)

Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled Electroencephalography (EEG) Technologist to support the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Puget Sound Health Care System. The EEG Technologist will perform diagnostic neurophysiology procedures, including EEG and evoked potential studies, to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of neurological conditions.

This is a full-time, onsite position supporting a multidisciplinary neurology team in a hospital setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and complex EEG procedures, including:
    • Awake, sleep, portable, and long-term monitoring (LTM/CCTV EEG)
    • Evoked potential studies and specialized neurodiagnostic testing
  • Prepare patients, explain procedures, and ensure patient comfort and safety
  • Set up, calibrate, and operate EEG equipment and associated systems
  • Collect and analyze patient data during procedures to ensure diagnostic quality
  • Maintain accurate patient records in electronic health systems
  • Collaborate with neurologists and clinical staff to support patient care
  • Ensure compliance with hospital protocols, safety standards, and infection control procedures
  • Maintain equipment, supplies, and inventory for the neurodiagnostic lab
  • Participate in quality assurance and continuous improvement initiatives

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of recent EEG technologist experience in a hospital setting (inpatient and outpatient)
  • Current certification/registration from one of the following:
    • ABRET (American Board of Registration of EEG Technologists) OR
    • AAET (American Association of Electrodiagnostic Technologists)
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Ability to work independently and perform complex diagnostic procedures
  • Strong communication and patient care skills
  • Proficiency with EEG equipment and electronic medical records systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with long-term EEG monitoring and epilepsy programs
  • Prior experience working in ICU, ED, or surgical environments
  • Knowledge of Joint Commission (JCAHO) and VA standards

Additional Requirements

  • Must hold a current, unrestricted license (if applicable)
  • Ability to pass background check, credentialing, and VA onboarding requirements
  • Completion of required VA training (privacy, cybersecurity, etc.)
  • Up-to-date immunizations and health screenings
  • Ability to lift/move equipment and assist patients as needed (up to 50+ lbs)

Work Environment

  • Hospital setting including outpatient clinics, ICU, and operating rooms
  • Requires standing, walking, and assisting with patient positioning
  • Fast-paced clinical environment supporting veteran patient care
