Job Description - Electromechanical Engineer

Company Overview:

Pronoia Energy is a pioneering deep tech startup at the forefront of quantum energy storage innovation. As a lean, mission-driven team, we thrive on rapid prototyping, cross-disciplinary collaboration and solving complex engineering challenges to turn quantum physics into practical, scalable products.

Our current focus is on developing our  groundbreaking room-temperature macroscopic quantum energy storage technology that promises orders of magnitude greater energy density, faster charging, and higher power delivery compared to existing battery technology. This  represents a paradigm shift in energy storage with applications spanning consumer electronics, electric vehicles, renewable grids, and beyond.

Role Summary:

We're seeking a trailblazing Electro-Mechanical Engineer to spearhead the transition from our experimental energy storage material and proof-of-concept battery operations into a fully functional, production-ready product. This role demands a self-starter who thrives in ambiguity, solves complex problems on the fly, and is ready to push through obstacles to deliver results that propel us from 0-1 and beyond.

In this role, you will be the bridge between cutting-edge science and market-dominating engineering, collaborating closely with our experimental process development team to assemble our first full prototype.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design, assembly, and iteration of our inaugural full battery prototype, ensuring seamless integration of the quantum confinement material with mechanical structures and electrical systems to meet stringent performance specifications.
  • Partner with the experimental process development team to translate lab-scale innovations into scalable prototypes, incorporating feedback loops for rapid refinement.
  • Conduct comprehensive thermal modeling, simulations, and testing to ensure the prototype operates efficiently, safely, and reliably under diverse conditions, mitigating heat-related risks in high-power applications.
  • Design and implement interfaces between mechanical components and electrical engineering circuits, enabling full battery functionality, including power management, charging interfaces, and safety features.
  • Develop testing protocols to verify the prototype against key metrics such as energy density, cycle life, charge/discharge rates, and environmental resilience, iterating based on data to achieve production viability.
  • Incorporate design-for-manufacturing principles from day one, ensuring the prototype lays the groundwork for high-volume U.S.-based production without compromising on innovation or quality.
  • Tackle unforeseen challenges head-on, from material compatibility issues to integration hurdles, while maintaining agility in a startup setting where speed and impact are paramount.

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in electromechanical engineering, with proven expertise in battery or energy storage systems, prototype development, and transitioning from R&D to production.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • Hands-on experience with thermal analysis tools (e.g., ANSYS, COMSOL) and integrating mechanical designs with electrical circuits is essential.
  • Strong proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD), finite element analysis (FEA), and simulation tools for thermal and mechanical performance. Familiarity with battery assembly processes, materials science (especially advanced energy materials), and electrical integration (e.g., PCB design, power electronics).
  • A relentless problem-solver and self-starter who excels in high-stakes, fast-moving environments. You're not afraid to run through brick walls to achieve breakthroughs, with a track record of delivering under pressure in startup or innovative tech settings.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degrees or certifications in electro-mechanics or energy systems are a plus.
  • Experience with quantum materials, sustainable energy tech, or U.S.-based manufacturing.
  • Passion for securing America's energy independence and a commitment to building products that scale globally.

What We Offer:

  • Chance to solve one of the world's biggest engineering challenges and pioneer quantum energy storage.
  • Competitive salary, equity in a transformative startup, and performance-based incentives.
  • Chance to solve one of the world's biggest engineering challenges and pioneer quantum energy storage.
  • Access to cutting-edge labs, tools, and resources in a flexible, collaborative work environment.
  • Comprehensive benefits: health insurance, unlimited PTO, professional development stipend, and relocation assistance if needed.
  • A culture of innovation where your leadership will accelerate our path to market impact.

If you're excited to tackle this real-world quantum problem and build the battery of the future, apply with your resume and cover letter detailing relevant projects.
