Job Description - Electronic Design Team Lead

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Electronics Design Engineering Team Lead to oversee and guide a team of engineers in the design, development, and testing of electronic systems and components. This role combines technical expertise with leadership to drive innovation, ensure quality deliverables, and foster collaboration within the team. The ideal candidate will possess strong circuit design skills, experience in PCB development, and the ability to mentor and inspire a team.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Team Leadership:
    • Lead, mentor, and provide technical direction to a team of electronics design engineers.
    • Delegate tasks effectively, monitor progress, and ensure timely delivery of high-quality designs.
    • Foster a collaborative, innovative, and supportive team environment.
  2. Design and Development:
    • Oversee the design and development of electronic systems, including analog, digital, and mixed-signal circuits.
    • Review and approve schematics, PCB layouts, and design documentation.
    • Ensure designs meet performance, cost, and reliability requirements.
  3. Technical Expertise:
    • Conduct advanced circuit analysis, simulations, and optimizations.
    • Solve complex technical challenges related to electronic design and system integration.
    • Ensure compliance with industry standards, certifications, and regulatory requirements.
  4. Collaboration:
    • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including mechanical, software, and production teams.
    • Coordinate with suppliers and vendors to ensure the availability and suitability of components.
    • Work closely with project management to contribute to project schedule and budget development and maintenance
    • Support contractor management as technical point of contact as required
    • Communicate progress, challenges, and technical solutions to project management.
  5. Testing and Validation:
    • Oversee prototype development, testing, and debugging.
    • Ensure thorough validation of designs, including EMC/EMI compliance testing.
    • Implement and monitor quality assurance processes.
  6. Continuous Improvement:
    • Identify opportunities for process improvements within the design and development workflow.
    • Promote the adoption of new tools, technologies, and methodologies to enhance efficiency and innovation.
    • Stay updated on industry trends and emerging technologies.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or a related field.
  • 10-15 years of experience in electronics design, with at least 2 years in a leadership or mentorship role.
  • Proficiency in circuit design and PCB layout using tools like Altium, OrCAD, or KiCad.
  • Experience with Altium Designer and Altium Designer to Solidworks workflow; experience with Eagle or K CAD is a plus. 
  • Strong debugging and prototyping skills, including soldering, oscilloscope, logic analyzer, power supplies, and communication protocols. 
  • Experience with motor controls, testing hardware and software, and game engine integrations.
  • Ability to read schematics and have an understanding of data structures. 
  • Strong organizational skills and documentation experience. 
  • Dynamic verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Collaborative and friendly problem-solver, who prioritizes teamwork and open communication.
  • Strong knowledge of analog and digital design principles, microcontrollers, and embedded systems.
  • Hands-on experience with testing equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers).
  • Familiarity with industry standards and certifications (e.g., FCC, CE, RoHS).
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in low-power design, power electronics, battery design, or RF systems.
  • Knowledge of wireless communication protocols (e.g., Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, LoRa).
  • Expertise in EMC/EMI testing and mitigation techniques.
