We have an upcoming Summer Internship for Electronic Product Design Engineer Intern 

This is a paid internship.

Overview of the Role:

This position will enable an intern to gain valuable experience in electronic engineering. They will be assisting with the creation of new products, conducting research, implementing technology, improving existing designs, doing hands-on electronic testing, and evaluating new electronic products.  They will work alongside Electronic Product Design Engineers to construct and implement new circuit designs.  They will assist in building prototypes, doing research, help write technical reports and help establish product specifications and manufacturing procedures.  

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

• Build, modify, and test new and existing circuits
• Help evaluate circuit designs for optimal efficiency and best practices 
• Help evaluate new and existing technologies (benchmarking)
• Maintain lab components stock, and generate lists of shortages for ordering
• Help to create bills of materials (BOM)
• Help to actively seek out innovative new competitive products
• Assisting in estimating costs of circuits and helping to create timelines for product development 
• Help generate labels, organize raw materials, create product specifications and manufacturing procedures.
• Regular attendance and punctuality required 
• Performs other duties as assigned

Successful Candidate Profile:

• Actively pursuing a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering desired
• Familiarity with standard concepts, practices, and procedures in electronics engineering
• Familiarity with and the ability to use electronic test equipment (i.e., Oscilloscopes, function generators, spectrum analyzers) 
• Computer literacy required i.e.: MS systems, Excel, PowerPoint, internet environment
• Strong written & verbal communication skills
• Beginning to intermediate soldering skills
• Positive attitude: ability to work positively with others.
• Prior co-op / internship in a similar field is highly desirable.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

• Assisting with the qualification of alternate electronic components for use in our line of Animal containment products. This project will entail building and testing high-voltage electronic fence energizers with alternate parts.  Once the products are built, they will need to be tested against existing products for comparison purposes.  If the units function adequately, then they will need to be boxed up and sent to our Knoxville facility for long term validation testing.  In addition, substitute solar panels will need to be benchmarked against our existing products for output power.
• This project entails a comprehensive review of our electronic product portfolio to make sure our records are adequate and complete for all products we manufacture.  Some of our electronic products do not have proper documentation (i.e., schematics / OCAD files). The intern will examine products and check them against existing libraries of files to see whether the content exists, and if so, determine if the content is accurate.  If there is any missing information, then the intern will be required to create the missing documentation using ORCAD.  There will also be a need to improve the organization of our files so that they are labeled in a fashion that makes them easy to find based on the product name or SKU number.
