Job Description - Electronics & Instrumentation and Controls Manager

Job Description:


Reporting to the Engineering Manager and working closely with the various engineering teams, the Electronics and Instrumentation & Controls (EI&C) Manager will lead the design, development, commissioning, and validation of electrical and control systems essential to the completion of key deliverables in the Company’s Laser Enrichment Technology Development Project.


This role is responsible for overseeing the Electronics and Instrumentation & Controls Engineering team, ensuring successful development and integration of control systems, electrical components, and automation strategies that support the project’s Pilot Demonstration Plant (PDP).


Note: This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a DOE/NRC Q-clearance.


Roles and Responsibilities:


Electronics and Controls System Development:



  • Lead the Electronics and Controls Engineering team in planning, designing, and implementing control and electrical systems for automation and process control.

  • Develop and oversee the specification, design, and testing of electrical and control components, ensuring compliance with project requirements.

  • Review and approve documentation supporting procurement, fabrication, installation, commissioning, and operational readiness.

  • Direct the programming, configuration, and integration of PLCs and other programmable devices for plant control systems.

  • Lead the commissioning, testing, and validation of electronic and control systems to ensure operational performance and reliability.

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, cybersecurity, and industry standards for control system implementation.


Integration and Collaboration:



  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Process Engineering, Laser/Optical Systems, and IT, to integrate control systems into the overall plant operations.

  • Work closely with the IT team to ensure control systems meet cybersecurity protocols and network integration requirements.

  • Provide input for additional control subsystems development work in support of the broader technology strategy.


Team Leadership and Management:



  • Manage and mentor a team of electrical and control engineers, providing guidance on best practices, technical challenges, and professional growth.

  • Develop and maintain engineering standards, processes, and procedures to ensure project consistency and efficiency.

  • Identify and mitigate project risks related to electronic and control system development.

  • Provide technical leadership in the selection and application of new technologies to enhance plant operations and control strategies.

  • Provide input in the development of engineering budgets and schedules for projects.


Environment Health and Safety (EHS):



  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, laser safety requirements, and radiological safety standards.

  • Report any safety or environmental incidents, unsafe acts, or near misses to Company management.

  • Conduct and participate in safety and risk assessments for control and electrical systems.


Qualifications, Education, and Experience:



  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in industrial electrical and control system design, specification, and implementation.

  • At least 3 years of experience leading engineering teams.

  • Extensive experience with PLC programming, industrial automation, and control system integration.

  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity requirements for control systems.

  • Experience with commissioning and validation of industrial control and electrical systems.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE/NRC Q-clearance.

  • Advanced degree is desirable.
