Job Description - Elementary Mandarin Teaching Assistant

Description

Denver Language School (DLS) is a public, tuition-free language immersion charter school located in East Denver. DLS provides an innovative academic program to reach the highest levels of student achievement through comprehensive language immersion education in Spanish and Mandarin Chinese. DLS offers traditional learning activities in the target language, making the language both the medium and the object of instruction.

Mandarin Teaching Assistant Job Description

Denver Language School (DLS) is a public, tuition-free language immersion charter school located in Denver. DLS provides an innovative academic program to reach the highest levels of student achievement through comprehensive language immersion education in Spanish, Mandarin Chinese and French for middle school. DLS is a unique learning environment because students are learning content in the target language, spending between 50%-90% of their school day immersed in their chosen language. 

The selected candidate will begin work at DLS on August 5, 2025 and their pay will begin on August 20, 2025. This is a full-time salaried position, Monday through Friday at our Whiteman Campus.

The vacancy will remain open until filled.

Pay and Benefits

  • The starting range for this position is $33,333 - $35,500  from August-July.
  • 10 days of PTO with an option to roll up to 6 days to the following school year.

Essential Functions and Objectives

  • Encourages and supports student achievement through Positive Behavior supports and Restorative Practices
  • Reinforces lessons presented by teachers by reviewing material with students one-on-one or in small groups
  • Teaches or co-teaches lessons as appropriate 
  • Assists teachers with recordkeeping, such as tracking attendance and calculating grades
  • Actively supervises students in class, between classes, during lunch and recess, and on field trips
  • Collaborates with parents or guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators to address and support students' behavioral and academic needs; and coordinate instructional efforts.
  • Attends Professional Development and perform other duties as assigned
  • Provides evidence of highly qualified status for teaching assistant at DLS/ DPS
  • Acts as a guest teacher for other classroom teachers, teaching assistants or other staff as needed
  • Engage as a positive member of a vibrant international school community and culture
  • Treats students and staff with respect, fairness, and kindness
  • Ensures that Spanish  is used by students in the classroom 100% of the time

Qualifications

  • Experience with children in grades K-4
  • Fluent in Mandarin, native speaker preferred 
  • Bachelor's degree in Education or related field preferred; minimum 48 completed credit hours of higher education
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have passed the Elementary PLACE or Praxis test

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly required to stand and walk while teaching, escorting classes, and supervising
  • May be needed to lift up to 20 lb
  • Spend extended amounts of time outdoors during arrival, dismissal, and recess
