Elementaty Music Teacher

Job Title: Primary School Music Teacher  

Job Classification: Certified/Licensed Instructional

Reports to: Primary School Principal  

Work Schedule: Academic Year 

General Description: 

The Elementary School Music Teacher is responsible for providing high-quality music instruction to students in grades K–5. The teacher fosters an appreciation for music through singing, rhythm, movement, and introduction to musical instruments. This role plays a vital part in supporting students' creative expression, cultural awareness, and overall academic development through a well-rounded music curriculum. 

Qualifications: 

• Bachelor’s degree in Music Education or related field
• Indiana teaching license in Music (or the ability to obtain one)
• Experience teaching music in a school setting preferred
• Proficiency in vocal instruction and basic instrumental techniques
• Ability to lead group performances and musical programs
• Strong classroom management and communication skills
• Passion for working with elementary-aged students

Primary Responsibilities:

• Develop and deliver engaging music lessons for students in grades K–5
• Teach music fundamentals including rhythm, melody, notation, and dynamics
• Introduce students to a variety of musical styles and cultures
• Organize and direct school performances such as winter and spring concerts
• Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate music with other content areas
• Assess student growth and provide feedback to support skill development
• Maintain and organize classroom instruments and music materials
• Participate in professional development and school-wide initiatives

School Activities: 

Lead student performances for school and community events

Support extracurricular music programs (e.g., choir, music club) as needed

Participate in school committees, staff meetings, and special events

Must demonstrate foundational professionalism, including consistent attendance, punctuality, adherence to school policies and procedures, and strong employability skills. These are considered essential, non-negotiable expectations of the role.
