Job Description - Embryology Scientist

Description

Preventive Medicine is a venture‑backed biotech startup developing next‑generation reproductive‑genetics platforms to eliminate severe genetic disease before birth.

We're looking for an ambitious embryologist who is excited to push the boundaries of assisted reproductive technologies and make a meaningful impact on human health. As an early member of our rapidly growing team, you'll play a pivotal role in developing and refining cutting-edge procedures, not just following protocols.

Primary Responsiblities:

  • Microinject Reagents into mouse and IRB‑approved human zygotes using pronuclear, piezo‑assisted, or electroporation techniques.
  • Culture & assess embryos through the blastocyst stage (KSOM or equivalent media; daily Gardner/ESHRE scoring; meticulous LIMS/ELN records).
  • Biopsy blastocysts (laser‑assisted trophectoderm biopsy) and prepare samples for pre‑implantation genetic testing or downstream molecular analysis.
  • Analyze embryos (single‑embryo DNA/RNA extraction, fluorescence/confocal imaging) and present data that guide program‑level decisions.
  • Optimize processes—fine‑tune injection, culture, and biopsy parameters; evaluate new media and imaging workflows; draft and update SOPs.
  • Coordinate compliance—maintain IACUC/IRB documentation and schedule embryo collections, biopsies, and transfers with colony and surgical teams.

This is an on‑site, lab‑based role in South San Francisco, CA

Required

  • B.S./M.S. in Reproductive Biology, Developmental Biology, Genetics, or related field.
  • 3+ years hands‑on microinjection in mouse or human embryos with ≥70 % 2‑cell survival.
  • Proven ability to culture embryos to ≥50 % blastocyst rate.
  • Proficiency in laser‑assisted trophectoderm biopsy and sample prep for PGT.

Preferred

  • Broader human IVF experience (ICSI, vitrification, embryo transfer coordination).
  • Experience with time‑lapse incubators (EmbryoScope, Geri) and automated annotation.
  • Micromanipulator maintenance and capillary/needle fabrication.
  • Familiarity with GLP, ISO, or GMP quality systems.
  • Competitive salary plus meaningful equity—share in the company’s upside.
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage.
  • 401(k) with company match.
