Job Description - Emergency Response Registered Nurse

SUMMARY:

Under the direct supervision of the Clinical Manager/ Director (or designee) implements, the Emergency Response Nurse (ERN) supervises and evaluates the nursing care of each patient undergoing an emergency until the patient is stabilized or transitioned to the appropriate level of care. Utilizes the nursing process in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures, and with consideration of the aging process throughout the lifespan, including all developmental stages, as well as cultural patterns.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Brown University Health employees exemplify our values of Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence in all interactions with patients, families, and team members Responds to emergency situations (Code Blue, Rapid Response, Code Stroke, Code Triage) as delegated by Nursing Leadership to provide critical care assessment and interventions to manage patients in decline until they can be transitioned to the appropriate level of care. Collaborate with healthcare teams to assess, stabilize, and transition patients in clinical decline to appropriate levels of care (ICU, telemetry, etc.). Provides direct patient care utilizing the nursing process, critical care standards, and advance assessment skills. Supports nursing staff in managing complex or deteriorating patients, serving as a resource and mentor to clinical teams related to hospital policy and procedures. Identifies and communicates opportunities for staff education and clinical skill development; supports newly licensed nurses and orientees. Provides leadership by delegating, supervising and participating in safe nursing care activities provided by ancillary personnel. Participates in and leads research and/or quality/performance improvement initiatives related to emergency response and code blue. Documents clinical interventions, patient response, and recommendations in the electronic health record as appropriate. Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of emergency response policies and procedures. Supports quality assurance, patient safety, and compliance with regulatory and infection control standards. May support audits related to clinical emergencies, universal protocols, and documentation accuracy. Assists nursing leadership by providing feedback related to performance assessments, professional development planning, and clinical competencies. Meets and maintains clinical competencies measured by pre-determined credentialing standards, mandatory/safety education, and completion of Basic Life Support and ACLS. Serves as a role model/preceptor to new graduate nurses and less experienced personnel.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Qualifications: 200029728Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island, or compact state licensure in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement./a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred, Candidates actively enrolled in a BSN program may be considered. Certified Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) or Certification in Emergency Nursing (CEN) preferred. Minimum three years of current clinical experience in critical care nursing, including responding to cardiac arrests and clinical emergencies, in a hospital setting required. WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Visual and auditory ability to monitor patient status. Physical ability to assist in lifting and positioning patients. Exposed to a patient care environment. Physical ability for extensive walking and standing; lifting, positioning, and pushing patients on stretchers. UNIT SPECIFIC PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:; background-color: transparent; -webkit-text-fill-color: unsetMust have full range of body motion. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. Vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision and color vision. Must be able to speak and hear clearly. Must have the ability to stand, sit, walk, bend, lean, and squat for long periods of time without hindrance. Must be able to maintain dexterity when pulling, pushing, and gripping carts and stretchers. Must be physically able to perform CPR. Must perform all physical job duties accurately in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruption. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None.

Pay Range:

$38.62-$77.22
