Emergency Room Registered Nurse

Key Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality nursing care to Veterans in accordance with VA standards and Joint
• Commission requirements.
• Conduct and document patient assessments accurately and promptly.
• Administer medications, monitor responses, and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams.
• Participate in patient care planning and discharge coordination.
• Adhere to all patient safety, infection control, and confidentiality standards
• (HIPAA/Privacy Act).
• Maintain accurate electronic medical records (CPRS/VistA systems).
• Respond effectively to emergencies and manage critical care interventions.
• Demonstrate professionalism, courtesy, and accountability at all times.

Qualifications

 Required:  

• Current, unrestricted RN license in any U.S. State or Territory
• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ACEN or CCNE)
• Minimum 2 years of emergency room experience within the last 5 years
• BLS and ACLS certifications (must be current)
• Ability to pass background investigation and credentialing through VetPro
• TB test (within the last 12 months) and negative drug screening

 Preferred:  

• Experience in VA or federal healthcare settings
• Familiarity with electronic medical record systems (VistA/CPRS)
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills

Training Requirements

• Completion of New Employee Orientation (NEO) at MEDVAMC before starting
• Completion of all VHA-mandated online trainings, including Privacy, HIPAA, and Information Security
• Ongoing competency assessments and skills validations as required by VA
