Salary Range: $165,000 - $190,000
Employment Type: Full-Time | Permanent Placement
Practice Area: Eminent Domain | Real Estate Litigation | Public Agency Law

About the Opportunity

HireNow Staffing is seeking a driven and detail-oriented Eminent Domain Litigation Attorney to join a powerhouse legal team focused on land use, infrastructure, and property rights litigation. This is an excellent opportunity for a mid-level litigator who thrives on challenging casework and enjoys contributing to the success of critical public projects across California.

You will play a central role in representing public entities and agencies in condemnation and real estate acquisition matters many of which involve high-dollar infrastructure, transportation, or civic development projects. The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys the complexity of valuation disputes, excels in strategic litigation, and knows how to handle pressure with precision.

Relocation assistance is available for attorneys looking to move to San Diego, Los Angeles, or Oakland, making this a great career move for those seeking to deepen their litigation experience in a growing legal niche.

What You'll Do

  • Take ownership of active eminent domain cases from start to finish depositions, motion drafting, discovery, and trial preparation.

  • Assist public clients in the legal aspects of property acquisition, including valuation, just compensation, and procedural planning.

  • Conduct legal research and draft motions, oppositions, and other court filings that address nuanced legal and factual issues.

  • Collaborate with appraisers, engineers, and other subject matter experts to support valuation disputes and defend agency actions.

  • Participate in strategic case planning, client communications, and settlement negotiations.

  • Prepare for and attend court hearings, mediations, and potentially bench or jury trials in complex takings cases.

What You Bring

  • 2-5 years of solid litigation experience ideally in real estate, infrastructure, or condemnation law.

  • Demonstrated skill in discovery, depositions, motion practice, and case strategy.

  • A clear understanding of valuation principles, particularly as they apply to public infrastructure and land use.

  • Experience working with or representing public agencies or local governments is a strong plus.

  • Excellent legal writing skills and an ability to simplify and communicate complex property issues to courts and clients alike.

  • A thoughtful, proactive mindset you don't just respond to legal issues, you anticipate them.

Requirements

  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school

  • Active membership in the California State Bar

  • Must provide a recent writing sample with application

  • Prior experience in eminent domain, land use, or public agency real estate litigation strongly preferred

  • Willingness to appear in court and travel occasionally for hearings, depositions, and site inspections

Why This Role?

  • You'll join a respected team with deep expertise in condemnation and complex property law.

  • You'll get to work on meaningful public projects that shape California communities.

  • You'll have access to mentorship, growth pathways, and courtroom exposure beyond your years.

  • You'll be part of a firm that values work quality, legal thought leadership, and team collaboration.

NOTE: A writing sample is required for all applicants and will be used to assess legal reasoning and drafting ability.
