Employee Wellbeing Specialist/Counselor, LCSW - Full Time

The Employee Wellbeing Specialist (EWS) will develop and assist in the creation of a comprehensive Employee Wellness Program for all Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital (MLKCH) clinicians and staff. Duties can include being available as a resource for confidential counseling, psychological first aid, and support with crisis management, wellness, and work/life balance programs. The EWS will also be in a position to refer MLKCH team members to additional resources as needed. In addition to the development, coordination and marketing of a comprehensive Employee Wellness Program, duties will include but are not limited to: responding to users’ inquiries related to stress and anxiety; dialoguing with staff, and offering resources, services, and referrals. Other duties include engaging in and coordinating and/or helping to facilitate group support sessions. Finally, additional duties include securing, marketing, and coordinating between internal and external entities that aim to support the mental health and wellbeing of employees.
This role will report to the Director of Organizational Development and work closely with the Director of Employee Health to create opportunities, programs, and events to engage MLKCH staff in shifting the culture of healthcare workers to one that acknowledges the need for caregiver support systems.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Create and assist in the development of MLKCH’s Employee Wellness Program. Once established, oversee, coordinate and assess the program to bring the most value to our employees.
Design, review and respond to users’ questionnaire by providing support that is based on the principles of psychological first aid and emotional support.
Provide supportive counseling and crisis intervention to employee with challenging psychosocial issues.
Offer users resources, services, and referrals for formal mental health treatment, depending upon their needs and any issues they raise.
Coordinate and moderate Support Debrief Rounds as a multidisciplinary group or by individual units including clinicians and hospital staff – without senior leadership – a confidential, 45 to 60-minute sessions of up to 15 people.
Oversee and coordinate the implementation of mindfulness training and other support programs determined beneficial by engaging physicians, nurses, and staff members.
Track and report the impact and result of mindfulness training and wellness programs with physicians, nurses and staff members specifically around how increased knowledge on how to calm their mind and their behavioral health choices, including nutrition and exercise choices, impact their stress and resilience.
Coordinate and write materials, articles, and the sharing of resources with staff, and market to staff events and tools being offered by the hospital i.e., yoga, mindfulness, work life balance, homeschooling children, supporting aging parents, nutrition, among others.
Set up a service survey program to evaluate effectiveness of each program, the employee experience and the ROI, i.e., less days away from work, lower healthcare costs, more satisfied employees as they know we care for them in and outside of their work at hospital.
Proactively round hospital and partner with leaders identifying mental health/wellbeing needs before they become issues.
Be a resource for leaders to refer staff for support and identify needs for mandatory referral and follow up by staff.
Serve as the ambassador of employee mental health and wellbeing at MLKCH encouraging individual and team engagement and participation in events and programs.
Participate and be a resource to HR, for leaders and teams where/when significant change or challenge is occurring.
Communicate relevant elements of the health plan benefits.
Adheres to departmental and hospital wide policies and procedures.
Coordinate and attend program meetings on a regular basis to provide updates on user engagement, trends and to strategize on best practices for providing support
Log all relevant encounters in a confidential manner.
Prepare a wide variety of reports, systems, and documents of a confidential and non-confidential nature (e.g. meeting minutes, charts, etc.) up to and including clarifying pertinent mandatory compliance disclaimers
Other duties as assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Education
MFT degree or equivalent master’s degree, such as MA in Clinical Psychology, MA in Counseling Psychology or in a relevant field.
Master’s degree in Social Work or LCSW preferred.
B. Qualifications/Experience
3-5 years of experience in mental health counseling and interventions or relevant roles and responsibilities
Knowledge and understanding of clinical psychology, counseling psychology and mental health interventions
Knowledge of clinical operations and procedures
1-3 years of experience designing and implementing mental health and wellness programs within a work environment required.
A strategic thinker and experienced collaborator and influencer introducing and facilitating employee wellness into the workplace
Able to navigate and connect successfully with outside mental health resources
Certification in Counseling preferred
Certification in Mindfulness preferred
C. Special Skills/Knowledge
Strong interpersonal skills to effectively interact with MLKCH clinical and non-clinical employees in an appropriate and supportive manner.
Ability to perform tasks accurately and in a timely manner with minimum supervision and under frequent changes in priorities and deadlines.
Effectively plans and organizes work by setting priorities and adjusts them to meet the changing needs.
Must have advanced skills in the use of Microsoft Office and Excel for the production of tables and analyses.
Must be knowledgeable and familiar with survey software. Must have strong search skills using Psych Info and other databases.
Must have been awarded a MFT degree or other equivalent master’s degree such as (MA in Clinical Psychology, MA in Counseling Psychology).
