The Denver Fire Department is seeking an experienced EMS professional to serve as an EMS Instructor, supporting education, quality improvement, and community engagement efforts. The ideal candidate brings strong field experience, instructional expertise, and a passion for advancing EMS education and practice.
This position is located at 5440 Roslyn Street, Denver, CO 80216 and offers flexible, regular business hours. Occasional weekend work may be required throughout the year.
Key Responsibilities
Develop EMS educational curriculum and instructional content aligned with Medical Direction evidence-based practices and Quality Assurance needs
Deliver training through multiple platforms, including in-person instruction, Microsoft Teams, and Vector Solutions
Serve as an integral member of the QA/QI team, spending approximately 25% of work time auditing reports alongside the QA/QI Administrator, identifying trends, and providing feedback to DFD members
Participate in regular meetings with the QA/QI Administrator and EMS Manager to support continuous improvement and education development
Support community outreach and engagement initiatives in collaboration with the Denver Fire PIO and Community Outreach Coordinator
Maintain active EMT or Paramedic licensure and complete continuing education to stay current with evolving EMS practices
Maintain all instructor certifications as required by the Medical Direction Team
Ensure EMS equipment quality and communicate needs for repair or replacement
Ideal Candidate Qualifications
Current EMT or Paramedic certification
Minimum of three years of field experience as an EMT or Paramedic
Proficiency in Microsoft applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams
Experience delivering in-person EMS instruction
BLS and ACLS Instructor certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
Experience developing educational content for EMT-B programs
Below are the minimum requirements used to determine eligibility for this position:
Education requirement: Bachelor's Degree.
Experience Requirement: Two (2) years of experience assisting with educational or training duties and responsibilities in a structured setting.
Education/Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education.
Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.
License/Certifications: By position, requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application.
By position, requires a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL "A" or “B”) at time of application.
By position, requires professional certification or licensure related to area of work.
By position, must obtain Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) clearance within the probationary period.
Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
