Fortune is seeking a talented reporter to help lead our energy coverage. In this role you will report and write in-depth feature stories, leading industry trends, breaking news, daily coverage and much more for oil and gas, renewables, critical minerals and energy policy for North America and the global energy industries, especially the Fortune 500 companies.

This reporter will report to our energy editor for enterprise journalism as part of a new energy team at Fortune.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable researching, reporting, editing and writing pieces about energy stock market movements, financial filings, and analyst reports.

To apply, please submit your résumé, a cover letter clearly outlining how your skills and experience meet or exceed the key candidate requirements and links to five pieces that represent the type of work described.

You will:

  • Be able to show an impressive track record of editing and generating scoops and analysis on energy topics that are relevant to our audience of leaders.

  • Enjoy constantly networking with CEOs, executives and sources inside energy companies to cultivate stories and scoops.

  • Appear on stage at Fortune events to interview industry leaders.

  • Consistently generate story ideas, from quick news hits to profiles and magazine features.

  • Be comfortable juggling a mixture of stories, working on tight deadlines, and pursuing original reporting in a fast-paced newsroom.

  • Be able to work closely with the energy editor and other colleagues to work as a team and help edit each other’s work.

  • Be able to create charts using tools like Datawrapper.

You have:

  • At least 3 years of full-time newsroom experience, preferably in a similar role.

  • A digital-first mindset and voracious reading habits.

  • Interest in energy coverage and the desire to define the beat.

  • The ability to work quickly and collaboratively as part of a tight-knit, fast-paced team.

  • Fortune’s U.S. headquarters is in New York City. This role is based in the U.S., and candidates should have authorization to work in the U.S. Candidates based in the NYC area or near one of our other offices will be required to work in the office 5 days per week.

A few of Fortune’s perks and benefits:

  • 20 vacation days and 2 personal days on top of 11 company holidays and an honor-based sick leave policy

  • Health, dental, and vision coverage (90% paid for individuals and families), along with flexible spending accounts where Fortune contributes to your HSA

  • 401(k) plan

  • Generous parental leave

  • Dependent care, commuter, and cell phone benefits

  • Tuition reimbursement program

  • A commitment to an open, inclusive, and diverse work culture

Location: This role may be based in NYC. We are now working 5 days/week in the office.

Some great candidates may not fit neatly into what we’ve described above or have key skills we haven’t thought of. If that’s you, don’t hesitate to apply and tell us about yourself.

Salary Range: $70,000-$80,000. This range is a good faith estimate and may ultimately vary based on a number of relevant factors.

All applicants should submit a resume and cover letter.
