The mission of the Chicago Abortion Fund is to advance reproductive autonomy and justice for everyone by providing financial, logistical, and emotional support to people seeking abortion services and by building collective power and fostering partnerships for political and cultural change. Position Summary


The Engagement & Volunteer Coordinator reports to the Director of Advocacy and Communications and is tasked with supporting CAF’s movement-building and community outreach efforts through events, campaigns, and partnerships. The Engagement & Volunteer Coordinator will coordinate and lead volunteer engagement initiatives, including recruitment, onboarding, training, and facilitation of CAF’s Movement Building Cohort. The ideal candidate will bring a strong commitment to reproductive justice, excellent communication and organizational skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.



Compensation & Benefits



  • Salary range: $60,278 - $72,936 (based on experience and qualifications).

  • All full-time employees are eligible for the full benefits package including:

    • 401K with up to 5% employer match.

    • Unlimited paid time off, including a mandatory four weeks off.

    • Paid parental leave.

    • 100% employer-paid health insurance premiums (medical, dental, vision) with 50% dependent coverage.

    • Observance of federal holidays.





Work Schedule & Location



  • A full-time work week is a minimum of 32 hours over four days.

  • Illinois residence is required. Relocation fees are not provided by CAF. 

  • Hybrid schedule: minimum two days in the office per week (West Loop, Chicago).



Essential Job Functions 


Community Engagement (50%)



  • Support and participate in coalition work, as assigned by supervisor

  • Support reproductive justice movement-building initiatives such as coalition meetings, rallies, lobby days, and community partner events

  • Attend community events as a CAF representative through public speaking, tabling, and/or giving presentations

  • Maintain and disseminate promotional and event materials

  • Identify new opportunities for engagement and collaboration with community members (markets, festivals, community gatherings, etc.) 

  • Support cross-departmental campaigns, such as our annual Fund-A-Thon, to cultivate and train supporter-advocates


Volunteer Management (30%)



  • Oversee and facilitate monthly meetings for CAF’s Movement Building Cohort, a group of 30-40 volunteers that are committed to deepen CAF’s capacity for political education, fundraising, and community engagement

  • Coordinate a robust menu of one-time and recurring volunteer and engagement opportunities such as care package kit production & distribution, teach-ins, etc. 

  • Support with dissemination and recruitment of other programmatic volunteer opportunities across the CAF base to interested volunteers

  • Lead onboarding and continued training for CAF volunteers





Administrative Tasks (15%)



  • Monitor the movement building email inbox and triage messages

  • Create and manage event pages for CAF events

  • Update CAF’s internal events calendar

  • Attend relevant meetings related to the Communications, Advocacy, and Development departments

  • Complete post-engagement follow-up such as communicating with attendees/hosts, tracking supporter activity and attendance, and providing necessary cross-team updates

  • Maintain volunteer training and talking points documents in collaboration with other team members


Other (5%)



  • Work pro-actively and in good faith to support and strengthen the overall stability and effectiveness of the organization

  • Co-create and maintain a culture that fosters deep collaboration, trust, and  coordination across functional organizational areas

  • Maintains a collaborative, positive, professional and friendly approach to working with supervisor, other staff, grantees, and external stakeholders



  • Actively participate in required convenings, summits, retreats, and staff meetings, and participate in required staff communications 

  • Update professional knowledge by participating in educational opportunities approved by CAF, maintaining networks, and participating in professional organizations as relevant to the role 

  • May be involved in other cross-department work including but not limited to supporting programs, operations, and communications as assigned by the supervisor 

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor



Work Environment



  • Standard office equipment use required (computers, scanners).

  • Frequent sitting and virtual communications (email, video conferencing).

  • Off-site work will be required; accessibility will be prioritized.

  • Evening and weekend work will regularly be required.

  • Must be able to conduct business in English; however, fluency in languages other than English is a plus. Spanish pay differential available for qualified candidates.

  • Experience and demonstrated success in community engagement, organizing, or volunteer management

  • Commitment to reproductive justice and abortion access for all people

  • Knowledge of intersectionality and the impact that privilege and oppression can have on people’s ability to access abortion

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and juggle multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines simultaneously; excellent time management and project management

  • Attention to accuracy and detail, strong organizational skills and follow-through

  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community; strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and adapt to changing needs and environments



  • Experience with confidential information management; ability to work in sensitive situations with utmost discretion

  • Proficiency in: Google Suite; Zoom; Slack; and online event management
