Basic Purpose
The Engagement Assistant exists to share stories, provide a hospitable first touch, and guide individuals toward meaningful connection within the Aspire Family of Churches. Through storytelling and personal interaction, this role helps people feel seen, welcomed, and invited into small groups, service, and congregational life. In addition, this position supports SMCC Arts Academy by extending hospitality and community engagement through creative partnerships and events.
Key Role
1. Care Coordination
Provide warm, attentive first-contact care by answering calls, welcoming visitors, and guiding individuals toward appropriate next steps, groups, and ministries.
2. Storytelling & Narrative Engagement
Curate and share stories that highlight how people are experiencing community, service, and belonging within Aspire, reinforcing why participation and connection matter.
3. Arts Academy Support & Community Engagement
Support SMCC Arts Academy by assisting with partnerships and events that position the church as a welcoming patron of the arts and a connector within the community.
Key Responsibilities
1. Care Coordination
- Serve as a point of contact for phone calls, walk-in visits, and general inquiries during business hours.
- Offer hospitality, listening, and discernment to help individuals feel welcomed and understood.
- Guide people toward next steps, including small groups, serving opportunities, ministry connections, and care pathways.
- Provide support for funeral (occasional wedding) coordination.
- Assist the Ministry Support Coordinator by documenting interactions in myAspire and supporting follow-up processes to ensure individuals are not lost or overlooked.
2. Storytelling & Narrative Engagement
- Identify and collect stories of life change, small group involvement, service, and belonging across Aspire congregations and ministries.
- Develop written and visual story content that reinforces Aspire’s discipleship pathway and community values.
- Partner with the Communications Director to integrate stories into broader invitational communication efforts.
- Ensure stories reflect authenticity, hospitality, and respect for individuals and congregational context.
3. Arts Academy Support & Community Engagement
- Assist with coordination of SMCC Arts Academy initiatives.
- Support relationships with local artists, arts organizations, and creative partners.
- Help plan and execute 2–3 arts, craft, or market-style events per year hosted at Aspire facilities.
- Coordinate logistics, communication support, and volunteer involvement in arts-related events.
- Support alignment between arts events and Aspire’s broader community engagement goals.

- Participate in staff development and discipleship activities.
- Assist with onboarding and training related to front-door hospitality and connection processes.
- Assist with additional operational needs as requested by the Ministry Support Coordinator.
