POSITION OVERVIEW: As an Engagement Coordinator at LJA Transportation, you will work closely with the project lead to execute communications, outreach, and engagement plans that inform the public of specific projects and collect feedback that helps our clients reflect the community’s vision and values in their plans.
A TYPICAL DAY MIGHT INCLUDE:
Implementing communication and public engagement plans under the direction of project managers and specialists to maximize the reach and engagement of local communities in project development.
Supporting the development of materials, in collaboration with the project team, that explain complex topics. This includes but is not limited fact sheets, presentations, website content, media releases, social media plans, letters to stakeholders and elected officials, etc.
Planning and conducting outreach activities, including block-walking, calls and emails, and pop-up community events, etc.
Maintaining project documentation such as meeting notes and ongoing communication with clients and stakeholders.
Planning, executing, and attending public meetings, open houses, and other community events (ground breakings, ribbon cuttings, etc.)
Performing office and administrative duties as needed
Working some evenings and weekends as needed to support public engagement meetings and client initiatives
Performing other duties as needed
REQUIRED EDUCATION/LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Advertising, Public Relations, Communications Studies, Journalism, or related field; or comparable experience and training.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
A minimum of one year of experience in communications, public relations, marketing, event planning, customer service or related field.
Professionalism, responsibility, organization, and reliability.
Proficiency with computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PPT)
Ability to communicate objectively and professionally about controversial topics with impassioned members of the public.
Ability to work with tight and competing deadlines, frequent interruptions, and changes in priorities.
Positive attitude and eagerness to learn.
IDEALLY, YOU SHOULD ALSO HAVE:
Strong interpersonal and written communication skills. Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
