Job Description - ENGINEER

Description

Position Title: Electrical Engineer

Location: Houston, TX

Gulf Interstate Engineering Co has an opening for an Electrical Engineer position in Houston, TX. Duties Include: 

1. Assist in the preparation of requisitions for inquiry in support of purchasing equipment and materials.

2. Prepares technical bid evaluations for equipment, materials, bulk material and subcontracts in cooperation with the Procurement Department.

3. Observes factory acceptance testing of equipment in cooperation with the Lead Engineer.

4. Performs engineering calculations and analysis as required by discipline.

5. Reviews one-line diagrams, area classification and layouts as required by the discipline.

6. Reviews vendor drawings.

7. Accepts both short and extended term assignments to the site, client’s office, etc. as may be requested by the Chief Electrical Engineer.

To further clarify, the processes, equipment, projects and/or products that the employe will work with Gulf Interstate Engineering Co. clarifies that the Electrical Engineer is part of a group that provides design engineering services covering Electrical Distribution System Design for the oil & gas industry, specifically to develop the optimum electrical distribution system based upon the desired reliability, maintainability, flexibility, and cost. The department provides system studies and/or calculations for Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) & Battery sizing, Cable Sizing, Generator sizing, Electrical load list, as well as Short Circuit & Load Flow Study, Arc Flash Hazard Analysis and Lighting Calculations. Further, the electrical engineer works with a team that determines the classification of hazardous (classified) locations for the selection and installation of electrical equipment.

1. Equipment includes Power Distribution Center (PDC) Buildings, Switchgear, Motor Control Centers (MCCs), Transformers, Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), Generators. As part of the material requisition package, the electrical engineer will develop equipment specifications and data sheets. These documents may be required for Compressor Stations, Meter Stations, Tank farms, and other types of midstream locations.

2. Equipment includes Power Distribution Center (PDC) Buildings, Switchgear, Motor Control Centers (MCCs), Transformers, Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), Generators. As part of the material requisition package, the electrical engineer will develop equipment specifications and data sheets. These documents may be required for Compressor Stations, Meter Stations, Tank farms, and other types of midstream locations.

3. Equipment to be factory acceptance tested includes: Power Distribution Center (PDC) Buildings, Switchgear, Motor Control Centers (MCCs), Generators. 

4. These electrical engineering calculations include but are not limited to: Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) & Battery sizing, Cable Sizing, Generator sizing, Electrical load list, as well as Short Circuit & Load Flow Study, Arc Flash Hazard Analysis and Lighting Calculations. The electrical engineer will use Engineering software like Dialux Evo, EasyPower and SK.M's Power Tools for Windows, to perform the calculations and studies.

5. "By discipline" means per project in relation to the electrical engineering group.

Requirements

Employer will accept a minimum of a bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in electrical engineering or a related technical field with 24 months of experience of engineering experience in the oil and gas industry. 

Experience should include the following:

1. 24 months of experience with electrical power systems and area classifications in the oil and gas industry.

2. 24 months of experience oil and gas standards and codes published by NEMA, ANSI, IEC, and NEC.

3. 24 months of experience with computer systems used in an engineering environment such as SKM or similar.
