We are seeking a full-time Engineer - Construction Manager to join our team supporting projects at the Bay Pines VA Medical Center in Bay Pines, Florida. The work consists of a multi-million-dollar renovation of the main hospital building and related infrastructure improvements, with projects occurring in various stages including planning, design, procurement, construction, and closeout. This position serves as the Owner’s Representative supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs during construction activities. Some of the duties of the successful candidate include:

  • Observe contractor and subcontractor work and report issues related to workmanship, materials, safety, or code compliance. Assist in developing punch lists and tracking corrective actions through completion.
  • Identify shutdown and operational impacts and assist with facility coordination.
  • Prepare daily reports documenting construction progress, manpower, work activities, and site conditions. Communicate events that may impact schedule, cost or quality to the VA. Provide field inputs to the project scheduler as requested.
  • Maintain organized project files including inspection reports, correspondence, photographs, and deficiency logs.
  • May review contractor submittals, RFIs, testing reports, and inspection documentation.
  • Assist with preparation or review of change orders, cost proposals, and contract modifications as requested.
  • Support contract phase close-out activities and final inspections.
  • Assist site Safety Manager with daily observations ensuring work activities align with OSHA, EM-385-1-1, and project safety requirements. 

  Relevant Experience

  • Minimum of five years of construction experience, preferably on healthcare or federal construction projects.
  • Broad, multidisciplinary construction experience involving major building systems and trades. Experience with IT Infrastructure, Telecommunications, Building Management Systems, or Commissioning is a plus.
  • Familiarity with testing, certification, turnover, and as-built documentation requirements.
  • Working knowledge of applicable building, electrical, safety, and environmental codes and standards.  

Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline or a related field from an accredited institution or an equivalent combination of education, professional licensure, training, and demonstrated work experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work independently and with a team. 
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and common software platforms used in construction management and project coordination.

Physical Requirements

  

Ability to climb permanent and temporary stairs, ladders, and access construction personnel hoists. Ability to safely navigate active construction sites, including uneven terrain and partially completed work areas. Regular exposure to construction environments, including moving mechanical parts, elevated work areas, airborne dust, fumes, outdoor weather conditions, and potential electrical hazards. Ability to occasionally lift and carry equipment weighing 10–25 pounds.
