The Role

Develops and evaluates metrology calibration systems that measure characteristics of objects. Identifies magnitude of error sources contributing to uncertainty of results to determine reliability of measurement process in quantitative terms. Develops calibration methods and techniques based on principles of measurement science, technical analysis of measurement problems and accuracy and precision requirements.

Responsible for providing engineering support to a variety of shipbuilding projects, including precision metrology measurement, structural engineering and welding, pipe engineering, machine shop operations, manufacturing processes, data analysis, and metrology practices. Position is responsible for developing methods and processes to guide measurement technicians through metrology surveys, analyzing survey data for determining out-of-tolerance conditions, creating automation enhancements, as well as collect and analyze technical data for design studies, prepare layouts and executable plans, review design proposals and drawings, review and develop technical specifications, analyze and resolve design and production issues in the areas of structures, machinery, piping, ventilation, and welding.

Must Have

Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of relevant exempt experience;

Master’s Degree and 0 year of relevant professional experience

Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
