Position: Engineering Controls Certification Specialist

Type: Full-Time

Location: Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG), MD

Travel: 10%

Position Summary: Performs certification and safety assessments of laboratory engineering controls (chemical fume hoods, biosafety cabinets, gloveboxes). Ensures compliance with Army, OSHA, and CBC SOPs regarding industrial safety.

Duties and Responsibilities:  

• Certify and calibrate engineering controls (chemical/biological hoods, gloveboxes, enclosures, etc.) in accordance with regulations and CBC SOPs ([PWS Section 3.3.8.3, 1.17])

• Document findings and maintain databases; submit required certifications to government

• Analyze and identify faulty controls or ventilation systems; recommend upgrades

• Participate in training, inspections, and safety assessments

• Use PPE and follow all lab safety protocols

Required Skills and Abilities:

• Technical Degree above a high school diploma (Associate’s or higher)

• At least 6 years of experience in engineering controls certification (e.g., certifying lab hoods, gloveboxes)

• Knowledge of relevant SOPs and Army/OSHA safety requirements

• Must be able to pass and maintain a respirator fit test (M-40 mask)

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk, listen, and write. The employee frequently is required to use foot/ankle motions, hands or fingers, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is required to stand, walk, sit; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
