At GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GVH) we are helping address climate change by designing technology to power our future with reliable, affordable, carbon-free energy. We are a world leader in advanced reactor technology, fuel and services. Join us as we build our legacy, boldly innovating to provide carbon-free power to the world.

We are a diverse and dedicated global team who believes in the value of your unique identity, background, and experiences. We are committed to fostering an inclusive culture, where everyone feels empowered to do their best work because they feel accepted, respected, and that they belong. By embracing diverse teams and perspectives, we are better equipped to build a world that works.

This position serves as the strategic lead for Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) within the Nuclear Engineering organization. The incumbent will be responsible for building a unified Center of Excellence (CoE) for I&C by integrating currently distributed advanced nuclear controls and installed base/services functions. This role oversees a total organization of over 200 personnel (FTE and staff augmentation) and is accountable for the delivery of all controls engineering for FOAK (First-of-a-Kind) BWRX-300 SMR construction and commissioning, as well as nuclear fleet services and uprates.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Establish and scale an engineering resourcing strategy with key suppliers to enable flexible, cost-effective delivery of plant-specific designs.
  • Program Delivery: Lead I&C engineering across multiple parallel FOAK BWRX-300 projects and provide technical direction for NUMAC services for existing reactors.
  • Architecture & Process: Drive consistent controls architecture and execution. Develop efficient processes, tools, and team structures to enhance delivery speed, quality, and repeatability.
  • CoE Integration: Lead the formation of a formal Center of Excellence to consolidate disparate I&C skillsets across the broader Nuclear Engineering organization.
  • Stakeholder Management: Influence and align cross-functional stakeholders (Supply Chain, Construction, Commissioning) to deliver complex scope reliably in an environment of high uncertainty.
  • Operations & Innovation: Partner cross-functionally with Finance, Advanced Research, and senior leadership to optimize business operations, implement AI/Digital applications, and drive enterprise-wide Lean initiatives.
  • Team Development: Lead and mentor a high-performance organization, providing clear execution leadership and building a culture of continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering.
  • Minimum 8 years of progressive experience in engineering design and/or project leadership.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in the nuclear industry or equivalent power industry.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in Controls Engineering.

Desired Characteristics

  • Technical Expertise: Strong background in I&C systems, including safety-critical systems, regulatory requirements, and EPC power plant engineering.
  • Leadership Excellence: Proven ability to build and lead high-performing, multi-disciplinary, and geographically dispersed teams.
  • Lean Proficiency: Demonstrated expertise in Lean principles and practices, with a track record of driving immediate impact, leading change, and improving business performance.
  • Strategic Execution: Ability to translate business vision into practical, actionable plans and deliver results in complex, evolving environments.
  • Systems Thinking: Ability to navigate complex, large-scale technical architectures and apply sound technical judgment to cross-functional interfaces.
  • Adaptability: Ability to transition seamlessly between high-level strategic planning and hands-on execution oversight.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence across organizations and promote a culture of collaboration.

For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between $220,000 and $300,000. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set.
