Job Description - Engineering Director, Tempe, AZ

A Day in the Life

The Engineering Director will lead a large engineering organization (55+) that develops and maintains production test software and test strategies with a close tie with the design organization for Medtronic implantable devices, providing applications support across 8 OUs and sites in Tempe, Singapore, Puerto Rico, and Switzerland for CRM, CDS, Neuro, and CAS. Partners with manufacturing and supply chain to integrate test strategies into IC, Hybrid, and Device production lines throughout the product lifecycle. Develops electrical test strategies that drive state of the art test methods and leverage design and test architectures in support of Medtronic’s long-range technology, cost and quality objectives.

         

         

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Plans, directs and implements all aspects of the company's design and development of new medical device products or software systems.
  • Directs and drives the activities of one or more functional areas and product groups through managers/senior managers with overall responsibility for the direction of those assigned areas. Determines actual organizational structures and allocation of subordinate management responsibilities. Provides leadership, coaching and career development.
  • Sets operational strategies, business focused goals and objectives.  Deploy technical solutions globally, develop capability to coordinate and leverage talent and best practices in Test applications Engineering.  Collaborates with strategic functional partners across EPT, Neuroscience and remaining OUs to incorporate business strategies and corporate direction to continuously drive improvement in quality, reduction of test burden, and shortened the development cycle time of test solutions.
  • Identifies, communicates and drives implementation of capital investments and improvement projects. Defines and manages vendor expectations to established and approved details represented in Supplier and NDA agreements.
  • Continuously look to transform the function to be more efficient and cost competitive.
  • Able to balance needs from an Operations perspective and OU perspective without missing goals
  • May develop, evaluate, implement and maintain technical quality assurance and control systems or reliability systems and standards pertaining to materials, techniques, or company products.
  • Oversees the investigation and evaluation of existing technologies.
  • Guides the conceptualization of new methodologies, materials, machines, processes or products.
  • Directs the development of new concepts from initial design to market release.
  • Manages feasibility studies of the design to determine if capable of functioning as intended.
  • Monitors documentation maintenance throughout all phases of research and development.
  • Organizes the coordination of activities with outside suppliers and consultants to ensure timely delivery.
  • Selects, develops and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements- To be considered for this role, please ensure the minimum requirements are evident in your applicant profile:

  • Baccalaureate with minimum of 10+ years of engineering experience with 7 years of managerial experience OR advanced degree with a minimum of 8 years prior relevant experience, with 7 years of managerial experience.
  • Demonstrated success at creating aggressive long term strategic vision.  Ability to develop a vision, strategic plan and execute to a 3-5 year window.

The provided base salary range is used nationally (except in certain CA locations). The rate offered is compliant with federal/local regulations and may vary by experience, certification/education, market conditions, location, etc.  Base pay is based on numerous factors and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$198,400.00 - $297,600.00

 

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

This position is eligible for an annual long-term incentive plan.

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).

 

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to all regular employees: Incentive plans, 401(k) plan plus employer contribution and match, Short-term disability, Paid time off, Paid holidays, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, Employee Assistance Program, Non-qualified Retirement Plan Supplement (subject to IRS earning minimums), and Capital Accumulation Plan (available to Vice Presidents and above, or subject to IRS earning minimums).
