Job Description - Engineering Manager

Engineering Manager 



EBM Manufacturing is seeking a hands‑on Engineering Manager to lead our engineering and drafting functions while actively contributing to mechanical design and drafting work. This role supervises engineering staff, leads design standards and project workflows, and supports quoting and technical decision-making for custom equipment and fabrication projects.
This position will partner with senior leadership to select drafters and a supervisor for EBM’s new Lincoln, Nebraska facility, and will be responsible for building, developing, and managing this new engineering team. The ideal candidate is an experienced mechanical designer with strong leadership abilities and a background in manufacturing or metal fabrication.



Essential Functions



  • Lead, mentor, and supervise engineering and drafting staff while continuing to perform hands‑on engineering and drafting work as needed.

  • Create and review engineering designs, CNC programs, solid models, assemblies, and sales drawings for Gentle Roll machines, screw conveyors, shellers, sidewinders, custom parts, and other equipment.

  • Manage workflow and priorities for parts creation, bill of materials (BOM) development, assemblies, shop work orders, and sales orders within company software.

  • Perform engineering calculations including equipment capacity, RPM requirements, horsepower needs, and drive package specifications.

  • Conduct or assign field measurement visits to gather necessary design information and verify accuracy.

  • Support Sales with accurate BOMs, weight calculations, and labor estimates for quoting.

  • Develop, implement, and enforce engineering standards, documentation practices, and process improvements.

  • Troubleshoot design challenges, support production teams, and provide technical guidance throughout fabrication and assembly.

  • Collaborate with company leadership on workload forecasting, process development, and departmental planning.

  • Work closely with senior leadership in the selection of drafters and a supervisor for EBM’s new Lincoln, Nebraska location. Lead the onboarding, development, management, and performance oversight of this new engineering/drafting team.

  • Perform other engineering and leadership duties as assigned.



Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD, VET, Excel, and Word; working knowledge of SolidWorks, ProNest, and Adobe Acrobat Pro.

  • Strong ability to perform hands‑on drafting, modeling, and engineering design.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to clearly explain fabrication, assembly, and construction requirements.

  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to coach, develop, and evaluate team members.

  • Strong decision-making abilities with a focus on cost‑effective problem solving.

  • Excellent planning, organizing, and prioritizing skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in all engineering documentation.

  • Ability to work effectively in high‑stress or fast‑paced situations.



Education, Training and Experience



  • Associate’s degree in CAD drafting required; Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field preferred.

  • Autodesk or SolidWorks certification preferred.

  • 3–5+ years of mechanical engineering experience with exposure to fabrication or manufacturing environments.

  • Prior leadership or supervisory experience strongly preferred.



Work Context



  • Primarily office-based work with extended periods at the computer creating drawings, models, and documentation.

  • Occasional time spent on the shop floor, including climbing, squatting, or taking measurements on equipment.

  • Requires precision, reliability, and strong collaboration with internal teams.

  • Must be able to balance hands‑on engineering responsibilities with leadership and project management duties.



Special Requirements



  • Must be at least 18 years old.

  • Must pass a physical and drug screening.

  • Full‑time, Monday–Friday, with overtime or weekend work as needed.
